New Apex Legends Map Hinted at By Game Files

Not too long ago, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment officially launched Season 1 of the premium Battle Pass for the battle royale title Apex Legends, giving players the ability to pay money in the free-to-play title to earn new items by progressing throughout a full 100 levels. Now it appears as if the publisher and developer could be creating even more content in the way of new environments for both Battle Pass holders and non-paying players alike to experience at some point in the future.

According to a recent datamine leak of the game files for Apex Legends, several files seem to suggest that the battle royale title's development team have at least one new map slated to be added down the line. One game file in particular implies that Respawn Entertainment has a map select button on standby should a fresh environment other than King's Canyon eventually make its way into the free-to-play battle royale release.

The potential for a new map to come in Apex Legends will likely be seen as an exciting prospect for many fans of the free-to-play battle royale title, as it would give the game even more replay value. Also, Respawn seems keen on the idea of new maps, too, with the studio's CEO Vince Zampella having previously gone on record to state that Apex Legends would "probably" get new and bigger maps in the future should the development team decide that they're "fun".

That said, with one of the only hints of fresh maps to come at this juncture being a map select button leaked from the game files, there's no telling when or if Apex Legends would receive them, as the game files could simply be a placeholder for the time being. After all, it's worth noting that dataminers have uncovered plenty of information in the past regarding potential features within a wide variety of different live service games only for those features to never see the light of day.

At any rate, should the leaked Apex Legends game files be an accurate indication of what's to come, then players could very well see a new map soon. If Respawn does inject a new map into the free-to-play title, then it would give it somewhat of a leg up over competitors like Fortnite, as Epic Games' free-to-play battle royale release only has one map for players to enjoy.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
