The massive maps of Apex Legends are a strong point of the game, with many environments to battle in; however, some players feel the game would benefit from even more. Currently, a popular community idea that changes up the thematic elements of the existing maps is gaining traction.

EA and Respawn's Apex Legends has gone through various map changes and additions throughout the years, with widely varied environments. King's Canyon, the game's iconic first map, features a wide variety of combat environments including cities and steep cliffs.

Apex Legends is set in the Titanfall universe, which takes place in the far future on alien planets. The previous games had variety in environments, but not quite as much as Apex Legends, which often lets the dense cityscapes give way to rolling hills perfect for sliding down. Some players who frequent the game's social media channels are expressing that a hypothetical map added in the future would do well to contrast the established settings, leaning more into the science fiction angle with even more futuristic cityscapes and massive residental areas.

Other games have tried similar things before; Battle Royale experiences from different developers who tried to go for a verticality-focused cityscape design more often than not fall flat. However, Respawn has proven that verticality can work in Apex by creating engaging city settings on a smaller scale, dotted throughout each map. An expanded version of such settings could provide a combat experience unlike anything seen in the game before, where players would have to constantly be on guard for sudden attacks from behind corners and be mindful of door-campers.

Many Legends' abilities would lend themselves well to a city setting, in theory; Bloodhound's Beast of the Hunt Ultimate ability would give a truly terrifying advantage, forcing opponents to think quickly and take winding routes to escape the Legend's tracking. Wraith's Dimensional Rift Ultimate would also be useful for bringing the entire team to an enemy location, or making a quick escape should things go south. The added verticality inherent to a cityscape would make it especially useful for escaping, since the portal could cover a long falling distance quickly and remove the chance of being shot down in midair.

Overall, a city map could be an interesting change of pace for the game and provide new ways of maximizing the potential of each Legend. It remains to be seen whether Respawn will implement such a map, but it has the potential to be one of the game's most interesting, especially if it can expand the Titanfall lore in the process.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
