In a traditional match of Apex Legends, landing in a heavily congested area equates to a mad dash for loot. The first to grab a gun can usually finish off their opponent quickly, while RNG was not in their favor as they didn't find one themselves. Apex Legends' current takeover, Locked and Loaded, circumvents this.

Unlike the traditional drop, Locked and Loaded matches start players with common equipment, a Mozambique, 2 shield cells, and 2 syringes, while making the loot pool all Rare or above. The choice to use Apex Legends' Mozambique over something like the P2020 likely has to do something with the shotgun's meme status, but even here, it's put to good use.

This means very little if landing without other squads, but it also initially levels the playing field between two squads. It becomes a game of who's better with the Mozambique, not who gets the RNG favor. It's become a popular Apex Legends takeover, so popular in fact many are calling for it to be the game's default mode. Notably, it wouldn't be the first BR game to involve dropping in with a basic loadout, and as the genre continues to develop, it wouldn't be bad for Apex Legends to try to get near the start of the curve with this.

That said, there are likely some who prefer the traditional drop too, so it all remains to be seen if anything comes from this. With many players calling for it, though, as well as some of the leading members of the community, it may just be something Respawn Entertainment is considering.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Switch version will launch on March 9 and a mobile port is in development.
