As Apex Legends passes the halfway point of Season 6, many fans are wondering about the possible changes to the current legends. Season 6 introduced Rampart to the roster, but some are noticing that last season's legend has been widely forgotten and in need of a buff.

Season 5 legend Loba seemed like a character who would be instantly launched into the meta with handy looting and teleportation abilities. However, her abilities have crippling weaknesses that have put her in the bottom tier of the Apex Legends character strength list. Many fans lobbied for a Loba buff in Season 6 and were given one, however, it may not have been enough.

Season 6 gave Loba a buff to her Black Market Boutique ultimate which reduces the cooldown time from three minutes to ninety seconds. This allows Loba's team to loot more often, however, the Black Market Boutique also announces Loba's position in a large range. Before the buff, Apex Legends developer Daniel Klein discussed increasing her looting power by potentially changing the number of items looted from two to three or four.

Following the Season 6 update, Klein gives reasons why a major Loba buff would not be viable. Klein shares that many potential buffs to Loba would break gunfights to the point where the identity of Apex Legends would be lost. Klein says, "the main reason we can't just bring everyone up to Lifeline/Wraith/Pathfinder's level  is that we're then stepping away from making a gun game and approaching making a character game." Klein references Overwatch as a successful character game, but not what Apex Legends wants to be. Although Apex Legends character abilities play a major part in gameplay, the game's formula still revolves around guns and shooting.

Klein then shares the problem with eliminating weaknesses from Loba's abilities or increasing their capabilities. Klein adds, "Say we give Loba the ability to teleport quickly and silently and suddenly you're losing fights not because the other team planned an ambush or executed better, but because they saw you and reacted to you by putting one of their members behind you." It is apparent that developers want to improve Loba, but the problem seems to be the fragile balance of her abilities.

Some of the potential changes do beneficial and would not render her completely overpowered. Klein shared ideas like increasing the items in Black Market Boutique or letting Loba grab any amount of a certain ammo type, however these changes would still need to be tested and could be far off. For now, Apex Legends developers are evaluating how Loba is being used in Season 6 and could be planning major changes to her in the future. With the launch of cross-play and the Aftermarket Collection event, more players may be jumping into the action and may give Loba a try.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version currently in development.
