Apex Legends was a big hit back when it originally released, becoming a battle royale sensation overnight. Unfortunately, Respawn Entertainment has been somewhat slow to add new content to the game since its February launch, and its playerbase has suffered as a result. However, that's about to change when Apex Legends Season 2 launches on July 2, as the new season will be adding a new character and a new weapon.

The new weapon coming to Apex Legends is Titanfall 2's L-Star full auto rifle. Fans have known about the L-Star coming to Apex Legends for months due to datamining efforts, but now it's officially been revealed, complete with a gameplay trailer and some details about how it will work.

Respawn has purposefully made the L-Star in Apex Legends overpowered. In fact, the L-Star is "so OP" that the gun will only be available in care packages. This should make Lifeline an even more important character, as her Ultimate ability allows her to manually call in care packages.

For fans worried that the L-Star will ruin the balance of the game, Respawn is taking steps to keep it in check. One way it's doing this is by limiting it to care packages and making it a gold-tier rarity, but it's also balancing the L-Star by giving players limited ammo for it. The L-Star will come with three 60 round clips, and when that ammo is gone, it's gone. Players won't be able to find anymore ammo for it anywhere on the King's Canyon map.

Overall, it sounds like the L-Star should be one of the more significant new weapons added to Apex Legends. Its power (it can destroy doors) and rarity will make it highly sought-after, and could really change up player strategies late in the match. How the community responds to it remains to be seen, but we'll find out when it's added to the game alongside Season 2 on July 2.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
