Respawn Entertainment's Apex Legends saw a big shake-up with the release of Season 7: Ascension, which prominently added a new Legend to play and a new map to explore. The battle royale's newest character, Horizon, contributes unique gravity-focused mechanics to Apex Legends, and in the short time since her release players have been figuring out different ways to use those mechanics to their advantage.

One of the key abilities in Horizon's kit is her Gravity Well, with which she can create a vertical "tunnel" of reverse gravity that can raise anyone who passes through it up 30 meters off the ground. The ability stays active for 10 seconds, and is advertised as letting players bring their teammates to higher ground or surprising an enemy by flinging them up off their feet. However, an Apex Legends player who goes by loseryeet on Reddit seems to have figured out a more niche use of the ability.

In a video uploaded Friday to the r/apexuniversity subreddit, which is dedicated to fans of the battle royale sharing tips and tricks, loseryeet shows off the Gravity Well's ability to improve strafing when placed under a low ceiling. Their example on Apex Legends' latest map Olympus shows that being continuously elevated off the ground increases movement speed, allowing them to dodge incoming fire easily while aiming down the opponent.

As with any new content dump in an ongoing game like Apex Legends, there have been plenty of glitches and unintended system overlaps that players are uncovering for Season 7. Horizon has been the subject of some hilarious glitches, in fact. However, loseryeet's Gravity Well trick seems more like a cool technical trick than a game-breaking exploit, even if it may not be what the developers intended players to do.

The steady stream of updates in Respawn Entertainment's hit game, which recently expanded to Steam, have helped it become a big money-maker for publisher EA. In its recent second-quarter financial report, EA said Apex Legends could become a billion-dollar franchise by the end of March 2021.

It's likely the game will only continue to grow from here. There are also plans to port Apex Legends to the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, though EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed mobile versions have been delayed. In the meantime, those who do have access to the battle royale can keep trying out new combinations of characters and abilities to find more winning tricks.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Mobile and Switch versions in development.
