The second trailer for Apex Legends' upcoming Season 8 arrives in a matter of days. Respawn Entertainment, Apex Legends' developer, stated it would premiere sometime on January 26, a week before the update itself launches. The first Apex Legends Season 8 trailer provided a look at some of the things the update will introduce, such as the new Apex Legend Fuse and the obliterated Kings Canyon map. The upcoming second trailer will show these ideas in action.

Along with that, the second trailer will also showcase concepts that didn't appear in the first Apex Legends Season 8 trailer, and Respawn Entertainment just revealed one of them. It's a new loot drop called Gold Magazines, and as its name implies it will offer a unique twist to how players reload their weapons. Unlike normal ammo pickups, Gold Magazines will automatically reload their holder's holstered weapon.

The idea of an automatic weapon reloader worried some Apex Legends fans when they learned about it, so Respawn game designer Daniel Klein provided a few details about how the new loot drop is currently balanced. For starters, the reload won't be instantaneous. The purpose of the loot drop is to make it so that players have an incentive to switch back and forth between weapons, not cheat the reload system. Once a Gold Mag reloads a weapon, it will inform players through an audio cue.

Fans will be able to get a look at how exactly Gold Magazines work when the second Apex Legends Season 8 trailer drops on January 26. It won't be firsthand experience, but a visual showcase is probably better than a breakdown through text. Regardless, even if Golden Magazines do end up being overpowered, Klein reassures fans in his statement that Respawn can always increase the delay it has before reloading a weapon.

It'll be interesting to see if Respawn has any other surprises in store when it releases the new trailer, but as it stands right now said trailer is already jam-packed. Respawn has more than just a look at the Gold Magazines, destroyed Kings Canyon, and Fuse. It will also be going over a new weapon (the lever-action 30-30 Repeater rifle), a new planet called Salvo, and patch notes detailing some of the changes coming along with Season 8. Season 8 does arrive two days before Apex Legends' second anniversary, so maybe the trailer will also reveal more ways Respawn plans to celebrate it.

Apex Legends is on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and has a Switch version in development.
