Like all good live-service games should be, Apex Legends is constantly updated with new content, and new events, every few months or so. Generally speaking, Apex Legends offers players two different types of major events. The first of these is a Themed Event, which often adds a plethora of new skins, a limited-time game mode, and some challenges, all revolving around a particular theme. The second, Collection Events, offers much of the same, but the key distinction is that the emphasis is placed on collecting a wide range of cosmetics. Apex Legends' upcoming "Gaiden" event fits more closely into the latter category.

Beginning on July 19, 2022, Apex Legends' Gaiden event sees a whopping 40 cosmetics be added to the battle royale, each one inspired by a variety of popular anime shows, ranging from My Hero Academia, to Naruto, and everything in between. On top of this, players can snag a Prestige skin for Bangalore if they manage to collect all 40 of these cosmetics. A new limited-time game mode is also heading to Apex during this Gaiden event, making it certainly worth checking out before its August 2 end date.

Apex Legends' Gaiden Event

This brand new Gaiden event sees the Armed and Dangerous LTM return to Apex Legends. This limited-time mode restricts players to just sniper rifles and shotguns, and drastically reduces the amount of shields on the map. The time-to-kill is extremely short, making every firefight an even more intense struggle for survival, perfect for the anime theme Respawn's going for this time round.

Some of the most impressive themed cosmetics in the Gaiden event are the handful of legendary skins on offer. Each of these skins transforms a Legend into an anime icon, starting with Wattson, who becomes Naruto, with a bright orange jumpsuit, and green jacket. Octane gets a complete makeover, now sporting a red and yellow vest, blue shorts, and a straw hat, imitating Luffy's look from One Piece. Revenant boasts one of the most visually-stunning skins in the entire event, with his transforming him into an Eva from Neon Genesis Evangelion. The final legendary skin gives Mirage some blue-green hair, and a blue and red body suit, closely resembling My Hero Academia's lead character, Deku. These legendary character packs can be unlocked through Apex Legends' Gaiden challenges, or through purchasing the specific Gaiden Event Packs from the Apex store.

Each of these legendary character packs also comes with a themed banner and weapon skin, with the weapon skin taking on a similar appearance to the Legend's outfit. Bangalore's brand new Prestige skin, "Apex Commander," can be obtained by collecting all 40 cosmetic items in the Gaiden event. Players will have just two weeks to do this, so they'll need to really put in the hours to stand a chance of getting the skin. After unlocking the skin, players can then unlock a further three tiers by completing challenges with Bangalore, each of which gives the skin a slightly different look.

For those who don't quite have the time to unlock these legendary or Prestige skins, all of the Gaiden event's cosmetics will be available to purchase via the Apex Legends in-game store, for real, hard-earned cash. While the event does officially end on August 2, lucky players will still be able to grab these cosmetics through standard Apex Packs, though the odds will certainly be against them. For anime fans, Apex Legends' Gaiden event is an absolute must-play, boasting some of the most complex and impressive cosmetics Apex Legends has ever seen.

Apex Legends is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
