Apex Legends is frequently praised by fans for its evolving gameplay and variety that preserves an exciting style. The battle royale shooter recently entered its 12th season, but data miners have already been unearthing hopeful hints that point to future content.

The battle royale style seen in Apex Legends features multiples game modes to suit different players, whether they are hardened clans taking on leaderboards or just looking for PvP fun. A recent code leak has got players discussing another rumor about future game modes that could be coming to the game.

Season 12 of Apex Legends brought in a limited time mode called Control which fans are requesting becomes a permanent fixture. Each new season can sometimes come with extra "demo" modes for a limited time, and data mined information reveals keywords such as "FreeDM" and "killingspree" found in the files. Kralrindo posted this information on Twitter with their own suggestions for what the code means, with the most popular theory revolving around a "Free Death Match" and/or "Free For All" for upcoming seasons.

Unlike other battle royale shooters such as Fortnite, there is no official solo mode offered for Apex Legends. Rumors about an Apex Legends Solo Mode have persisted for years, but there has been little word from Respawn Entertainment after it stated it wasn't that eager to pursue development for a single player battle royale mode. However, the recent code discovery has become a winning idea among the fanbase who want to get stuck into a Free For All setting with their favorite Legends.

Other unveiled code has opened up theories such as panels that allow wall running, and estimating which future season they could eventually feature in. Amidst competition from other franchise sequels like Warzone 2, there is currently no plan for Apex sequels. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing when gamers are given a roster of 19 characters and frequent map rotation with seven different game modes in a free-to-play game.

A long-awaited Deathmatch mode that is combined with intricate and exciting maps could be just what the battle royale seasons need to retain its audience. Apex Legends welcomed 28 million new players in the past year and is still receiving critical acclaim with each new season. It remains to be seen if the rumored FFA mode will be coming to Season 13, but players should keep an eye on any new announcements to see what the future holds.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions being developed.
