EA and Respawn Entertainment released Apex Legends in February 2019. The free-to-play battle royale hero shooter is now inching towards its third anniversary next month. The anniversary will coincide with the launch of Apex Legends’ upcoming 12th season, Defiance.

As such, the developers are celebrating by giving players some gifts. Apex Legends players can unlock up to three free Legends, nine Thematic Packs, and one legendary Pack by jumping into Apex Legends: Defiance between February 8 and March 1, 2022.

EA’s distributing the rewards over three weeks, starting with the launch of Defiance on February 8th. First, players can unlock the character Octane and three Thematic Packs for free until February 15th. Then, starting on the 15th, Apex Legends players can grab Wattson and two more Thematic Packs until February 22nd. Finally, players can unlock the last two Thematic Packs and a Legendary pack while taking to the skies as Valkyrie from February 22nd to March 1. Each character’s week begins at 10:00 AM Pacific Time on the 8th, 15th, and 22nd, and ends at 9:59 AM on the 15th, 22nd, and March 1st.

Players who already have any or all of those Legends can still unlock the free Thematic and Legendary Packs by logging in during those periods. However, EA also specified that it’s limited to one reward per week for each EA account. And as with most offers like this, these rewards can’t be refunded or exchanged for any other product or service.

February 8 is also the release date for Apex Legends: Defiance. The new season brings various additional content to the game, including a new mode, new legend, and changes to the Olympus map. Apex Legend’s new Control Mode is a nine vs. nine territory control match where two teams battle over multiple locations. Control also features infinite respawns, so achieving victory requires more than simply wiping out the enemy team.

Meanwhile, the new Legend, Mad Maggie, hails from the war-torn planet of Salvo and is a former partner of the existing player-character Fuse. Unlike Fuse, however, her participation in Apex Legends titular Apex Games is less than voluntary. As seen in Apex Legend’s recent “Judgment” trailer, she was an infamous revolutionary trying to free her planet from the Mercenary Syndicate, who rules the region of the galaxy where Apex Legends takes place. The Syndicate sentenced her to death but decided sending her to the games would be a more appropriate method of execution.

Respawn’s yet to release an official list of Maggie’s abilities. However, leaks indicate that they’ll include a flashbang grenade, concussive breaching charge, and “Shotgun Kick” melee attack. Apex Legends players can try Mad Maggie out for themselves when Apex Legends: Defiance launches on February 8.

Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One with Android and iOS versions in development.
