Apex Legends' twelfth season has had its share of ups and downs. On one hand, players were able to get their hands on fresh features such as the new Control mode and the reworked Crypto. On the other hand, the season also introduced yet another underpowered legend by way of Mad Maggie. Before the season draws to a close, however, Defiance is going out with the return of a classic limited-time event.

Flashpoint is a game mode that removes all health and shield restorative items from the loot pool. For players to heal up, they have to avoid taking damage for a set amount of time while in specific areas dotted around the map (which for the Unshackled event happens to be Olympus). Taking control of these points is crucial. In addition to getting shot at by enemy squads, players have to avoid the continuously closing ring. No restorative items mean fights outside the healing areas tend to be quicker; that is unless a squad happens to have either a Lifeline or Wattson on their side.

Lifeline's Medical Skills Shine In Flashpoint

Lifeline revives Bloodhound and her drone DOC revives another in Apex Legends

Lifeline's role as the only healer in Apex Legends makes her a godsend in Flashpoint. Her D.O.C. Heal Drone restores the health of anyone standing near it without the need for syringes, medkits, or phoenix kits. If the healing she provides isn't enough, her Combat Revive passive ability can get squadmates back on their feet quickly.

Lifeline's skills as a combat medic become more potent once she gets her hands on either a level 4 helmet or backpack. The helmet reduces the cooldown of her D.O.C. Heal Drone by 20%, while the backpack allows Lifeline to revive her squadmates with 50 shields and 70 heath - giving them an immediate fighting chance once they get back up. Sadly, Lifeline's Care Package ultimate does not provide her squad with health and shield items, as Respawn Entertainment took it into consideration when creating the Flashpoint game mode. However, her ability to heal squadmates and get them back up on their feet with health and shields without having to stay in a healing zone more than makes up for her lackluster ultimate ability.

Wattson Replenishes Shields And Intercepts Ordinance

While Lifeline's focus is on resuscitating and healing her squadmates, Wattson's primary goal in the game is to restore her squad's shields. She already has some form of shield restorative power thanks to her Spark of Genius passive, but the ability's added perk of allowing Wattson to instantly get her ultimate ability with a single ultimate accelerant plays a key role in Wattson's usefulness.

The Interception Pylon is the main reason squads will want to pick Wattson on Flashpoint. A single Pylon can replenish a cumulative total of 250 shields for all players that stand near it. This means that all players within the vicinity of the Interception Pylon (Wattson included) draw restorative shield power from the base 250 shield pool. The Interception Pylon also boosts Wattson's Perimeter Security cooldown rate, allowing her to set up her fences more liberally around a Flashpoint healing area.

Arguably the best use of the Interception Pylon on Flashpoint is its ability to block incoming ordinance. Since restorative items have been removed from the loot pool, players now have more backpack space to hold other items. Ammo can easily be found scattered throughout the map, so the next best thing for players to carry is a ton of grenades. This results in Flashpoint becoming extremely unbalanced when it comes to grenade spamming. Squads can easily flush out enemies from cubbies and buildings with a barrage of grenades, making later rings extremely hectic. Wattson's Interception Pylon protects her squad from the rain of ordinance as long as the ultimate is in a hard-to-reach area.

With the new Saviors season on the horizon, most players would much rather wait it out before coming back to Apex Legends. For those that can't resist playing the game, though, Flashpoint is a good mix-up on the classic battle royale gameplay that players can enjoy, especially if they have a Lifeline or Wattson on their squad.

Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
