Right now is an exciting time to be a fan of Apex Legends. Recently, Respawn Entertainment released Season 11, called Escape. Along with introducing a new Legend, Ash, and the new CAR SMG, this season provided fans with the first new map added to the battle royale in a year. While the developer has done many things right recently, players have dealt with some annoying bugs as well. One of these problems pertains to footstep audio in the game.

Complaints about a lack of footstep audio have been a common refrain amongst members of the Apex Legends community since the game was first released back in 2019. As if the issue was not already bad enough, even more players have been recently reporting problems regarding footstep audio following the launch of Season 11 on November 2.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as Erydrim shared a gameplay clip from Season 11 of Apex Legends. The brief video takes place during an intense game of Arenas on the Overflow map. As the enemy team pressed the attack, Erydrim took cover near a large pillar and attempted to use a D.O.C Heal Drone to restore their health. Unfortunately, out of seemingly nowhere and without any audio, a Horizon turned the corner and killed Erydrim at point-blank range. As a result of this unfortunate encounter, the Reddit user decided to use the clip as evidence that a footstep audio glitch was becoming more severe in Season 11.

Besides the video clip shared by Erydrim, other players have noted similar experiences where there appears to be no footstep sound. Some players, such as a Reddit user known as heavylifted, claimed that the issue is worse now than ever before. “I've had had far too many situations where enemies’ footsteps just can't be heard, it's worse than usual for me,” they said. Heavylifted claimed that the glitchy audio even took away from the satisfaction of eliminating an opposing team. “I’ve killed guys and I felt bad because I know they didn’t hear me run up at all,” they explained. In addition, the Reddit user noted that many Apex Legends streamers they watched play the battle royale were experiencing the same problems as well.

This is frustrating to many players as this inconsistent audio compromises the competitive integrity of the gameplay. It can be very aggravating to be gunned down from close range due to a lack of footstep audio. Furthermore, some players commented that the new Storm Point map contained various ambient noises that could be confused with gameplay-related sounds, such as dropships and supply drops.

So far, the developers at Respawn Entertainment have yet to comment on this lack of footstep audio in Season 11. It will be interesting to see if the studio implements a patch addressing audio bugs in the game moving forward.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
