Season 12 of Apex Legends is right around the corner, leaving fans excited for what's next. Respawn Entertainment has plenty to talk about in the next few days, but has already whetted the appetite of players through a couple of recent trailers. The latest Tales from the Outlands cinematic caught up with Maggie Kohere, last seen in Season 8 when her close friend Fuse left to join the Apex Games. Since then, Mad Maggie was captured by the Syndicate, tried, and found guilty of her crimes on Salvo.

Her punishment was being thrown into the Apex Games, essentially confirming her as the latest roster addition when Season 12 kicks off. While Mad Maggie's moveset and abilities are still unknown, another trailer may have provided a few clues. Fans have already speculated that she'll come with some sort of dart that can be used to damage or blind her enemies, releasing a spiked wheel, or potentially having some sort of speed boost passive. Either way, there appears to be more potential changes on the way as well.

While unconfirmed, recent rumors have pointed to a Control or Domination style mode being added into Apex Legends, giving fans an alternative game mode from the competitive Arenas and traditional Battle Royale. Fans are now wondering if World's Edge could be part of this new game mode as Respawn level designer Rodney Reece teased the return of the Capitol City drop spot. Responding to a fan on Twitter calling the construction building the best spot in Apex history, Reece congratulated fellow environmental artist Kristin Altamirano and wondered aloud if there could somehow be a way to bring it back.

Fans immediately latched on to that last sentence, which seems to indicate that the area known as Fragment West and East could be reunited back to its old look and feel called Capitol City. Respawn hasn't mentioned any changed coming to the World's Edge map and there's currently nothing similar on any Arenas map, so either a new map is getting added to the mix, or the heavily rumored Control/Domination Apex Legends mode could feature a unique version of World's Edge with the old Capitol City center drop returning.

For those who may want a change of pace from the traditional Battle Royale style gameplay, it is starting to look like Season 12 may be the perfect starting point for both new and returning players. Regardless of the content, Season 12 is also giving away free characters for Apex Legends' third anniversary, something that EA and Respawn have never done before. From February 8 to March 1, players can unlock new rewards over the course of those three weeks including Wattson, Octane, Valkyrie, nine Thematic Packs, and one legendary Pack.

Apex Legends is free-to-play on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One with Android and iOS versions in development.
