While Apex Legends is entering its fourth season with the newest character, Revenant, some fans are still looking to the game's past for entertainment. A recent leak about two past season-exclusive Legends has generated speculation on what developer Respawn Entertainment originally had in mind for these characters.
Although both characters were new characters introduced in competitive seasons (Octane was the first new unlockable character, and Wattson was Season 2's new Legend), the two have vastly different play styles. While Wattson's attacks rely on formidable defenses to slow down players, Octane is a classic speedster. Thus, when Wattson was introduced in the second season trailer alongside Octane, it didn't generate speculation.
However, a recent Reddit post from user Nachomm_27 revealed a deleted scene from the Season 2 trailer. While a shortened version of this scene is in the Battle Charge Launch Trailer for Apex Legends, the leak reveals that the original scene depicted Wattson giving Octane a longer, more meaningful look after helping him up. The extended scene has led some to speculate about the connection between the two.
As with similar leaks, the video was quickly distributed to other social networks like Twitter. However, Respawn has not confirmed that the leak is real. Even so, Respawn's silence has not stopped the various fan reactions. While some approved of the proposed pairing, others wondered if this extended moment was fabricated or actually edited out of the trailer. While Apex Legends is a battle royale, Respawn has still tried to build up character backstories. When considering this approach, Respawn might have tried to build some rapport between Wattson and Octane to develop them.
Love might be in the air for Apex Legends fans, but nothing regarding the fans' newest ship is confirmed yet. While the Reddit leak gives an interesting look into what could have been, the fact remains that these plans never came to fruition. With Respawn's focus on the latest addition to the heroes' roster, Octane and Wattson have both fallen to the wayside, nerfed by the meta. If there is any substance behind these leaks, perhaps it will be explored when the developer adjusts the meta in these characters' favor.
