One of the most renowned battle royale games, Apex Legends, recently revealed the new playable character of the upcoming season called Defiance. Mad Maggie, Fuse’s lifelong friend and foe, brings a rebellious attitude to the ranks of Apex Legends. Initially released in 2019 by Electronic Arts, Apex Legends keeps pushing its limits with innovation and diversification of the in-game features.

Characters, weapons, maps, collectables, thematic, and more change with each new season, coming out around once in three months. This February, Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment celebrates the three-year anniversary of Apex Legends by giving away significant rewards. The anniversary is going take place within the new season of Apex Legends called Defiance. The new trailer, featuring the upcoming playable character Mad Maggie, takes the gamers through the various new in-game features, abilities, thematics, and more.

Apex Legends features impressive and extensive lore, which is further discovered upon the release of a new season. Little in-game content, such as comics and events, reveal more about the characters’ or locations’ stories and backgrounds. This trailer introduced the further history of Maggie’s and Fuse’s planet - Salvo, and the corrupting governmental organization - Syndicate. The Syndicate is the governing organ of a coalition of the seven planets in the Outlands, called the Syndicate Space. It also is the primary organizer of the Apex Games, which Mad Maggie is now a part of.

Initially taking over the War Games event of Season 8 (Mayhem) as an announcer and commentator, players enjoyed her peculiar personality. In the previously released trailer of Apex Legends: Defiance - Judgement, players noticed her continuing the fight for liberation against corruption. An attempt at her execution by The Syndicate led to her ending up in the Apex Games by the order of Octane’s father (Octane already being an available and playable character in Apex Legends), whose motives are yet to be discovered. A touching moment of revelation occurred near the end of the trailer as the viewers hear Octane utter 'papa, que esta siendo?' ('father, what are you doing?' in Spanish), acknowledging the wrongdoings of his father. Players might expect the upcoming comics to reveal more interaction or connection between those two.

It is also expected that players will get further clarification on what passed between Maggie and Walter (Fuse), which caused her to explode his arm off; the Stories from the Outlands – Good as Gold does explore their relationship in detail, but it can be expected that more has transpired between these two than the players have been introduced with. It nonetheless should be entertaining to watch their interaction on the battlefield, similar to Loba and Revenant.

This trailer for Apex Legends: Defiance also revealed Mad Maggie’s abilities. Once dropped on the battlefield, to avoid the chasing adversaries, Maggie fires a dart at a crate, which embeds itself and releases flames around, presumably damaging (or stunning) and blinding her enemies. This seems like a tactical ability within Maggie’s arsenal. However, the ability to release a spinning spiked wheel also seems like a tactical ability, yet while its potential was not entirely revealed, the wheel could wreak mayhem and havoc, taking place as Mad Maggie’s ultimate among her abilities.

Mad Maggie most likely will lead as an offensive character, similar to Fuse, Ash, Revenant and more, which means she could be a good choice as a legend for the beginners of Apex Legends. Mad Maggie’s passive ability is yet to be identified or specified as well, it could be speculated to have something to do with speed, as Maggie released red fume at times during her dash in Apex Legends: Defiance Launch Trailer or a rumored shotgun attached to her leg, firing upon melee attacks.

The trailer also revealed the updated map of Olympus, which seemingly was transported above a busy city. Luckily being kept afloat and avoiding ultimate destruction, Olympus shall welcome players under the red skies, ruins, and fires. A drastic progression from an initially-introduced peaceful city of the clouds, which was released with Season 7, Apex Legends: Ascension.

Details of the upcoming battle pass and rewards are soon to be revealed too, alongside further speculation and confirmation on the upcoming events, skins, weapons, collectables, and more. However, it can be expected for Mad Maggie to wield a shield and a whip as her primary weapons, judged from the promotional picture.

Players can expect further details as Season 12, Apex Legends: Defiance nears its beginning, starting February 8.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
