A developer from Respawn Entertainment recently confirmed that the team is actively looking at bringing cross-progression to the console versions of Apex Legends.

This week, Respawn announced that Apex Legends will be releasing on Steam the same day that Season 7 of the game launches. In that announcement, it was confirmed that those who have already been playing Apex on PC using EA’s Origin service will be able to transfer their progression and unlocks to the Steam version. This news naturally has led fans who play the console versions of Apex to ask if cross-progression is planned for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game.

On Reddit yesterday, Apex Legends Game Director Chad Grenier commented on that possibility. Grenier said that, while cross-progression for console players is something they are, “very passionate about,” they aren’t ready to say anything else just yet. He points to the difficulty that would arise with merging multiple accounts that have already been fleshed out with different levels and unlocks of dozens if not hundreds of different cosmetic items.

Grenier specifies that the reason that cross-progression is coming to Steam is because it is at the launch of that version, thus players would simply just be importing their progression and unlocks from the Origin version of the game into the empty Steam version (doing so will also net players some nifty Valve-game-themed gun charms). This was likely easier for Respawn to implement as an EA/Origin account will still be required to link the game, thus Apex Legends progression will still effectively be tracked by the EA account.

While not an announcement by any means, console Apex Legends players will likely be happy to know that console cross-progression matters to Respawn. Perhaps they will be occupied by the now even sooner impending launch of Season 7 enough that they will forget about the issue for long enough for Respawn to work out whether cross-progression on consoles is possible.

Apex is currently in the midst of its second annual Fight or Fright collection event, celebrating Halloween in style. The new Shadow Royale mode has players returning to Revenant’s twisted shadow world again, but this time with some new four-legged companions.

And while the new Shadow Royale mode seems to be more liked than the Shadowfall version from last year, it seems that fans don’t like the new options for obtaining the Halloween cosmetics. Many players are sharing their disappointment online over the new and old Halloween skins being trapped inside expensive bundles with other skins players might not want.

Apex Legends is available now on Origin, PS4, and Xbox One, with the Steam version launching on November 4, and the Switch version arriving some time next year.
