Season 12 of Apex Legends has been met with a lot of excitement from fans. Not only has the season added Fuse's longtime friend and rival, Mad Maggie, who's able to fire drills to burn enemies on the other side of walls and temporarily highlighting damaged enemies. The Olympus map has also seen a few interesting changes this season as it has become suddenly sabotaged leading to distortions warping the arena.

As Apex Legends celebrates its third anniversary, EA is also doing something special for both new and veteran players who log in during the first few weeks of Season 12. The first three weeks at the start of the season will unlock three thematic packs, as well as Octane, Watton, and Valkyrie for free. In addition, the final week will also unlock a special Legendary Pack, on top of the usual rewards. However, the biggest addition this season for many fans is a brand-new mode called Control.

While Battle Royale games are no stranger to special limited time events, Apex Legends fans have been asking for a more traditional team style mode for a while. Control fits this mold as it features two teams of 9 fight to control 3 unique points on the map. Respawns are enabled, so the pressure and tension from the other modes like Arena and Battle Royale are removed. The mode has proven quite popular, to the point where fans are requesting that it becomes a permanent fixture to the main game.

Despite the popularity and positive feedback, the mode is still slated to be removed at some point. While most fans agree that Control offers something different compared to Arena or the BR, it could use a few tweaks if it is to be made permanent. Right now, players feel like controlling the center "B" point is the instant win zone, as controlling 2 out of the three basically means victory. Some suggested fixed spawns, adding a few more capture points and minimap, as well as no duplicate Legends, as some teams with multiple versions of Caustic or Rampart becomes aggravating to fight against.

There's certainly a case to be made for a third permanent mode to be added, especially considering that Apex Legends gained 28 million new players in 2021. Thanks in large part to the constant updates as well as being free to play, Apex Legends certainly doesn't appear to be hurting for active players. As such, adding a third mode likely wouldn't hurt the player population numbers or matchmaking times in the other two game modes.

Apex Legends is available for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
