Apex Legends is the latest title to hit the battle royale genre. Unsurprisingly, and similar to other games that came before it, developer Respawn Entertainment reported that the game has already been plagued by cheaters who are looking to find ways to gain an unfair advantage over other players.

In a developer update posted on Reddit, Respawn revealed its stance on cheating, assuring fans that the studio has heard their feedback and hinted of plans to add an in-game reporting feature soon. However, this does not mean that the studio will wait for the next update to take action against cheating players.

In the same post, Respawn made it known that it has already banned 16,000 players who were caught cheating in Apex Legends. Interestingly enough, this figure barely makes a dent to the game's current player count that reached 25 million in a span of one week.

For now, players who encounter other people engaging in cheating or other suspicious activity can simply report them right here. Players are also encouraged to file reports together with pieces of evidence (such as screenshots), to make the investigation much faster. However, if evidence wasn't captured, players can still report the ID of the cheater and flag it, and Respawn will do the necessary investigation to prove the accusation.

It seems that this first wave of cheaters on Apex Legends is only the beginning of Respawn's battle against dirty gameplay. Given the game's sudden rise to popularity, with some people saying that Apex Legends may even outpace Fortnite, it is not a surprise that some players are already finding ways to exploit the game.

While Respawn did not go into specifics with regards to the upcoming in-game reporting feature, it is interesting to see how the studio will handle the cheating problem in the future, especially since the developer has high hopes to support Apex Legends as a 10-year game.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
