Apex Legends is a battle royale game that has managed to carve out a niche by utilizing a unique character roster and fun first-person shooter mechanics. The game is developed by Respawn Entertainment who created the TitanFall series and with that in mind, many were not surprised by the quality of the game. Apex Legends has had a constant stream of content as well as frequent updates and players have now noticed a new element in the game. It is currently unclear whether it is a glitch or a deliberate mechanic but it has caught players by surprise.

While Apex Legends does have lore and some compelling character origins, its focus is on its gameplay. Like most battle royale games players are required to be the last team standing as an area gets increasingly small and this leads to tension-filled conclusions and exciting attempts to win under pressure. The latest in-game discovery may change how some players approach situations as it appears that bullets can be deflected.

TSM Pro, Mac ‘Albralelie’ Kenzie Beckwith, was attempting to shoot a player from a distance when the bullet they fired flew back towards them. The streamer was shocked as they expressed confusion with some profanities. Looking deeper it seems that this method of bullet deflection is the result of the Knockdown Shield. The player involved was confused and fortunately, players can see exactly what their opponent was doing. Although it does not clear up the situation too much and the question of whether it was a glitch in Apex Legends remains.

The opponent, Jan ‘Euriece’ Del Rosario, was flashing the shield on and off and at the same time as the shot, they were punched to cover. Whether it was the punch or the shield remains a mystery, and players will likely be keen to find out.

There are rumors of a new map and characters coming to Apex Legends and this feature could be integrated as part of an update. The deflection of bullets could be a worthwhile feature, but the team working on the game would likely have to weigh up the response of the community to the mechanic before implementing it. At the moment, it does appear to be a glitch, purely because the feature has not been discussed in patch notes.

It seems that Apex Legends still has plenty of surprises for players whether they are deliberate or not.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch port coming later this year.
