Following the announcement of the new Apex Legends map Broken Moon, Respawn devs revealed that they initially added a low-gravity feature to go with the environment. This meant that players could float around the map during gunfights, which would be a first in the game.

Apex Legends Season 15 is on the horizon. With it comes first trans legend Catalyst and new in-game features such as stickers and a long overdue gifting system. The gameplay trailer also showed that players will be able to engage in gunfights while riding the new ziprail system on Broken Moon, adding more movement variety and competitive edge to the battle royale.

Since Broken Moon is based on Cleo, which is Boreas' moon in the Outlands, Respawn lead level designer Jeff Shaw and world director Ed Agostini confirmed to Dexerto that they played around with a low-gravity movement mechanic to give Apex Legends a space-like experience. However, it was scrapped in the process of making Season 15.

Another question is whether low-gravity would fit better in a limited time mode, but Shaw and Agostini also explained that it won't happen anytime soon. Despite this, players can still make the most of Broken Moon and its surroundings for team fights. They can expect to find high-quality loot in Stassis Net Array, engage in big fights at Perpetual Core, or explore the Alpha Base that's found within a giant crater.

Apex Legends is a movement-heavy game that utilizes sliding to move faster and to escape enemy fire, among other things. Adding low-gravity into the mix may seem cool and fun, but it also has the potential to make match-ups unfair. If one plays Horizon, for example, they can abuse this mechanic while using her Gravity Lift. Fast-paced legends like Pathfinder and Octane might use this to speed through terrains. Players would surely find more creative ways to eliminate their enemies and get around the map along the way.

On the other hand, Shaw and Agostini's idea shows Respawn's willingness to try out new things to give fans fresh ways to play the game and redefine the meta each season. The developer definitely hasn't shied away from interesting gimmicks, including the yearly Apex Legends Halloween events that come with spooky skins and game modes. Perhaps one day, they will revisit the low-gravity idea and decide to add it in a Broken Moon Arenas map or LTM.

Apex Legends is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
