Things can change pretty rapidly in behind the scenes game development, and for games that constantly update, like Apex Legends, this is doubly true. Already it seems that a mobile Apex Legends port is coming, but other developments have gone on the back burner.

For the most part, Apex Legends has proven successful as a long-term battle royale. Its characters' unique powers provide gameplay variations not seen in other games of the genre. On top of that, its extension of Titanfall's universe has been well received by players. In fact, when players got the chance to dive deeper into the game's lore in Season 5, it went over very well. Unfortunately, it looks like this dive may have been a unique experience.

Something entirely new came to Apex Legends with Season 5: PvE. The story-driven missions of the Broken Ghost quest saw Loba leading other legends in a joint effort to recover and piece together an artifact. It was a character exploration that had not been done before, and players liked it. When a sequel was teased for Season 6, many fans got excited. Sadly, according to Tom Casiello, the writer of that sequel, it has been scrapped. It looks like the Broken Ghost storyline will not continue, at least in-game.

There are a few possible reasons behind this. Casiello's tweet hints that some behind the scenes upheaval completely negated the story. Perhaps future plans caused the story of Apex Legends to feature Loba and the Broken Ghost less prominently. This makes sense becayse Apex Legends must constantly put its new elements front and center. As an ongoing multiplayer game, story is one of its weakest points by design. That's probably why the most recent PvE quest focused on Rampart, outlining new things to know about her, rather than Loba.

It is entirely possible that the Broken Ghost storyline will continue, just in a different way that Casiello intended. With Titanfall 3 apparently in development, the world of Apex Legends may change in accordance with its release. Furthermore, if the rumor that a Titanfall antagonist is coming to Apex Legends is true, she may very well send the story in a new direction.

How much effort Apex Legends will devote to PVE in the future is debatable, as it is built for PvP first and foremost. Still, many players love Apex Legens' lore and want more of it. Although it may never be a huge part of the game, players can still hope for the Netlflix series to become a reality.

Apex Legends is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version in development.
