Over the past week, many game developers and publishers have put out statements in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Following the announcement that EA will be donating $1 million to racial injustice charities, Apex Legends now includes an in-game message in support of the movement upon launch.

Whenever a player launches Apex Legends, they are usually greeted by an announcement screen. These announcements usually revolve around the latest events, new Apex maps or Legends, as well as details about any deals going on in the in-game store.

However, players will now be met with a very different announcement when they load the game. Vince Zampella, head of Respawn Entertainment, tweeted an image that showed the inclusion of a Black Lives Matter message in-game. The message is extremely similar to EA's recent statement and reads as follows,

"There is deep-rooted discrimination that is still unquestionably present towards the Black community, and it is unacceptable. Racism, whether from and individual or an institution, should not exist in our society. We stand with all our Black colleagues and partners, families and friends in the fight against racism and social injustices.” Along with the image, Zampella tweeted, "Proud to have all our teams @Respawn standing with the Black community in the fight for social justice."

EA announced that it would be contributing $1 million to the Equal Justice Initiative and the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational fund, and many other developers have committed to similar messages of support. Riot Games recently committed to donating $1 million to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) as well as the Innocence Project.

While many players are quite happy with the actions being taken by these developers, there are many players who are not. The replies to Zampella's tweet include some who state they are uninstalling the game now. One person in particular asked if this means the game was closer to getting crossplay, clearly unable to read the room. While this statement on the game's launch screen will not solve racism, every little thing or gesture helps.
