Apex Legends players need both the right Legend and the right three-man team to dominate the Championship. Each Legend in the roster has a "gimmick" that provides players with a handy Tactical Ability and a potential game-changing Ultimate Ability. While Ultimates are more circumstantial, the Tactical will almost always decide the fate of a firefight.

Using the right Tactical can buy enough time for a counter-attack, or outright ruin the enemy team's advance. With more than ten Legends to choose from, the "ideal Tactical" might elude most players. However, for newcomers, some beginner-friendly Tactical Abilities may help prepare them for more complex plays.

10 Knuckle Cluster (Fuse)

Fuse - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Fuse loves his explosions, and his Knuckle Cluster complements this theme. His Tactical launches a cluster bomb that bursts into smaller explosives upon impact. When launched, it sticks to surfaces (and deals 10 damage to enemies) before exploding after 1.5 seconds. After that, it does 50 damage when hit by its grenades.

While Knuckle Cluster's low DPS might not make a difference in fights, it's a mean distraction and ambush material. Additionally, the Cluster can destroy items such as Amped Covers, Death Totems, and Black Market Boutiques. Along with Fuse's Grenadier (Passive), which lets him carry extra grenades per slot, and Motherlode (Ultimate), which encircles a field in flames, the result is fiery death to opponents.

9 Stim (Octane)

Octane - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

A little speed can give anyone time to escape, flank opponents, or even chase retreating enemies. Octane's Stim supports – and encourages – this high-risk playstyle. For 12 Health, Octane gets a speed boost 30% to walking, and 40% to sprinting. Its simple nature can give Octane all the tools he needs to take back the advantage in a fight.

Octane can easily heal Stim's 12-Health cost with Swift Mend (Passive). In more aggressive plays, Stim can help Octane make quicker turns to confuse opponents. This can give players enough time to attack enemies from a flank, or even climb up a surface and attack from there.

8 Psyche Out (Mirage)

Mirage - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Mirage specializes in confusing opponents with his holograms, and Psyche Out can be enough to disorient opponents. With this ability, Mirage sends a duplicate that copies his movements. When used properly, a Dummy can fool opponents into shooting bullets so Mirage and his allies can go for the kill.

Psyche Out also greatly complements Mirage's other skills. Now You See Me (Passive) lets Mirage summon another decoy when downed to give an ally time to save him. Likewise, Life of the Party (Ultimate) add five more Decoys that mimic Mirage, turning the confusion up to eleven.

7 Dome Of Protection (Gibraltar)

Gibraltar - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Sometimes, the best offense is a good defense – and Gibraltar specializes in defending his squad. With Dome of Protection, Gibraltar throws a disc that expands into a huge dome shield capable of protecting allies from all incoming and projectiles. Gibraltar also revives downed allies in the Dome within 4.5 seconds instead of six. This gives Gibraltar's team leeway to escape or prepare for a counter.

The Dome adds to both Gibraltar's Passive and Ultimate. His Gun Shield (Passive) allows him to absorb 50 Health while in ADS, allowing him to protect allies from incoming foes that get into the Dome. Likewise, his Defensive Bombardment (Ultimate) won't hit the Dome upon activation.

6 Silence (Revenant)

Revenant - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Revenant's skills as an assassin don't end with his stalking prowess; he can also disable Legends with Silence and eliminate them quickly. With this Tactical, Revenant throws a device that explodes into a dark cloud on contact, disabling targets from activating abilities. Players who know this can disable life-saving abilities such as Gun Shields and Combat Revives.

When combined with his other abilities, Silence can work as an ambush or outright offensive tool. With Stalker (Passive), Revenant can use his improved crouch-walk speed to lie in wait and disable opponents coming into a room. Likewise, Death Totem (Ultimate) gives Revenant's squad enough time to Silence a team and kill them while they're defenseless.

5 Surveillance Drone (Crypto)

Crypto - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Crypto and his Surveillance Drone serve as the opposite to Bloodhound's Eye. Thanks to the Drone, Crypto can reveal everything happening around his squad within a 200-meter radius. These include pinging enemy squads and even rare gear – perfect for planning approaches. Additionally, the Drone can pick up teammate banner cards and respawn them instantly via beacons.

With Neurolink (Passive), Crypto can give intel to teammates within 30 meters. Furthermore, with Drone E.M.P (Ultimate), Crypto can crash shields and deployable skills from other Legends. Though Crypto must remain stationary when piloting the Drone, its sheer practicality can win firefights before they begin.

4 Into The Void (Wraith)

Wraith - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Mobility can spell the difference between life and death, and Wraith's Into the Void can spell that out loud. With the Void, Wraith "phases" into another dimension, gaining a speed boost as she navigates around the battlefield in the form of a wisp. While Wraith can only travel the Void within four seconds, this can be enough to escape a firefight or attack enemies from the flank.

Sadly, inexperienced Wraiths can show enemies her wisp trail and lead them right to where she's going. However, skilled Wraiths can use this caveat and lead them straight into a path. With Voices from the Void (Passive), Wraith receives warnings of nearby enemies, prompting her to escape via the Void. Likewise, Wraith can stalk and go for a hit-and-run, to kill opponents and escape without them noticing.

3 D.O.C. Heal Drone (Lifeline)

Lifeline - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

In a high-stakes battle royale, Lifeline's D.O.C Heal Drone can make all the difference. Lifeline can whip out this little baddie that heals its owner and nearby allies for as long as 20 seconds. It can only heal 7.5 HP per second (and up to 150 HP). However, this can save a squad in a pinch.

When deployed properly, a Lifeline can replenish the team's health while hiding in the middle of a firefight. More skilled Lifelines can use D.O.C in conjunction with Combat Revive (Passive), where the drone can also revives an ally while Lifeline defends the point or revives another teammate. In desperate situations, D.O.C can even lure enemies into an ambush.

2 Smoke Launcher (Bangalore)

Bangalore in Apex Legends

Bangalore can use the Launcher to shoot a smoke canister that deploys a smoke wall. Typical FPS smoke bomb, right? FPS players who depend on smoke bombs for strategy will know how valuable this "typical" tool can get.

The Launcher has two charges, letting Bangalore use the canisters twice in a row. After deployment, the canisters will deal 10 Damage to any enemies it hits, and the smoke wall itself lasts 23 seconds. When used defensively, Bangalore can also cast a smoke wall while reviving allies. Alternatively, Bangalore can launch a smoke wall into an enemy's path to force them to appear outside, ready to take a few hits.

1 Eye Of The Allfather (Bloodhound)

Bloodhound - Apex Legends Best Tactical Abilities

Players can't go wrong with Bloodhound, especially with Eye of the Allfather boosting his tracking skills. With the Eye, Bloodhound casts a radar that views all signs of enemies, traps, loot, and even clues in a 125-foot cone. Granted, threat detection only lasts for four seconds and hostiles may see the scan. However, skilled players can find the four seconds enough to reposition and plan an ambush.

The Eye strikes a good balance between the offensive play encouraged by Beast of the Hunt (Ultimate) and the defensive play of the Tracker (Passive). Players can rely on the interactions displayed by the Tracker and confirm signs of threats via the Eye. Inevitable firefights detected by the Eye can provide enough setup for the aggressive Beast's speed boost and improved threat detection.
