Not long after Apex Legends launched and became a worldwide success, Respawn started teasing fans about how it would be supporting the game in future updates. The first major update for Apex Legends is expected to come this month as part of its first season of content, and it will be headlined by a Fortnite-style battle pass. Unfortunately, Respawn has kept quiet about what the battle pass will entail or when it will be available, but now a source "close to the situation" has leaked its release date to Daily eSports.

According to the anonymous source, the battle pass for Apex Legends will be available on March 12. Apparently Apex Legends players won't be able to purchase the battle pass with in-game currency, but rather, it will need to be purchased directly from the shop itself. This would be a departure from the way Fortnite handles its battle pass, which players can purchase using V-Bucks, meaning they potentially only have to ever pay for it a single time.

The source also revealed that the leaked character Octane will be released alongside the battle pass. Whether or not Octane will be included in the battle pass is unclear, but it seems unlikely considering how players had to unlock Caustic and Mirage in the game.

Before fans start marking their calendars, though, we must stress that this information should be taken with a grain of salt. We aren't able to verify the source, and it's possible that they're leaking false information to the Daily eSports website. However, since we know that the battle pass and first season are both coming this month, March 12 is as good a day as any.

March 12 is a Tuesday, which is also traditionally a day for new game releases and big updates for games. This makes it easier to believe the March 12 release date for Octane and the battle pass, but fans will still have to wait and see to be sure.

Luckily, Apex Legends fans won't have to wait long to find out if there's any truth to the rumors. If the battle pass and new character are both scheduled to release on March 12, then it's possible Respawn will make an announcement later this week, unless it plans to surprise launch the battle royale game's post-launch content as well.

Apex Legends is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
