US Congresswoman AOC Reaches New Milestone in League of Legends

League of Legends is one of the most popular games there is, with millions of people playing the MOBA every single day. It should come as no surprise, then, that there are some celebrity League of Legends players. However, it may be a little surprising that one such League of Legends player is a United States Congresswoman, who recently reached a new milestone in the game.

US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) has made it to Silver rank in League of Legends, which she shared with her followers online. AOC has a considerable online following, with an impressive 5.8 million Twitter followers at the time of this writing.

It may seem strange that a member of the United States Congress would be spending their free time playing video games, but it's only natural as younger people are elected to Congress. AOC is only 30 years old, meaning she grew up as the video game industry really hit its stride in the late 90s and 2000s. It makes sense that she is a gamer, and it would be interesting to learn what other games she plays besides League of Legends.

This isn't the first time that AOC has talked about video games. Earlier this year, she appeared in a charity Twitch stream where she revealed that the Nintendo 64 is perhaps her favorite console. She mentioned in the stream that while she didn't own a Nintendo 64 growing up, her cousin had one, and she would go to their house to play Super Mario 64Pokemon Snap, and other Nintendo 64 games.

Besides AOC, other politicians have started appearing on Twitch, sometimes even going as far as to create their own Twitch channels. US Senator and candidate for President Bernie Sanders was the first politician to start a Twitch channel, which he uses to discuss his political ideas instead of streaming video games. Current US President Donald Trump also has a Twitch channel, which has streamed some of his rallies recently.

With AOC endorsing Bernie Sanders for President and actively campaigning for him, perhaps she will appear on one of his Twitch streams in the future. That remains to be seen, but anything is possible as we near the big 2020 election next year.

League of Legends is out now for PC.
