Two rising talents in Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Eggers will be teaming up again for Eggers' remake of the classic horror film, Nosferatu.

Nosferatu, the influential 1922 silent film directed by F.W. Murnau that follows a vampire known as Count Orlock in his Transylvanian castle, was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula that, earlier on in its days, was exposed to legal complications that led to Stoker to try suing the production. Eventually, the film would soon become a classic in the horror genre that still holds up after all of these years, also inspiring countless other vampire films.

Eggers, who signed on to helm the remake back in 2017, has made a name for himself in the horror genre, blending well with A24's unique brand of storytelling. He made his directorial debut with 2015's The Witch (which stars Taylor-Joy), found success directing Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe in the 2019's The Lighthouse, and is now leading an ensemble cast in the upcoming historical thriller titled The Northman. Eggers' style of creating folk tale horror that is far from the mainstream has certainly captured the attention of audiences. Although his bizarre indie projects are what he is known for, he may be expanding his horizons with the Nosferatu.

Nosferatu

In an interview back in 2019 with Bloody-Disgusting, Eggers shared that his Nosferatu remake will have a broader appeal than his previous films. He said, "Yeah, Nosferatu would need to be more accessible than these two films. Particularly more accessible than The Lighthouse!” When asked if he'd ever transition to complete mainstream cinema, such as directing big blockbuster superhero films, Eggers responded, "Absolutely not… I definitely hope to create, to tell some stories on larger canvases, which does mean making something that is narratively more broad," he adds. "But that’s not a bad thing. Charles Dickens is a lot of fun to read but it’s not obscure, and that’s just fine.”

Taylor-Joy, a Golden Globe winner for her terrific work on Netflix's The Queen's Gambit and who will also be starring in Eggers' The Northman, Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho, Mark Mylod's The Menu, and George Miller's Mad Max: Furiosa, continues to attract the attention of many big filmmakers. Taylor-Joy reuniting with Eggers multiple times is starting to create one of Hollywood's most interesting, yet exciting duos that should have every fan on the lookout. No matter what film Taylor-Joy chooses next, her on-screen presence will surely help elevate the project.

Other than Taylor-Joy's attachment to the project, there has been little development on Nosferatu. Once Eggers' The Northman premieres in the spring of 2022, expect there to be more details surrounding the film. Fans can see Taylor-Joy in Last Night in Soho on October 29, 2021, and catch up on Eggers' The Witch and The Lighthouse, which are streaming on Hulu and Amazon Prime.

Nosferatu is currently in development.
