Several months ago, the video game publisher Electronic Arts and the developer BioWare revealed intentions to have the forthcoming multiplayer action-RPG Anthem be a 10-year journey akin to other titles like Activision and Bungie's shooter Destiny. Now, though, that pilgrimage might take some interesting detours, as it seems as if BioWare could be testing the unreleased game to be capable of playing in VR.

As seen in the images below courtesy of the Redditor known as DolphinTeethXXL, BioWare writer Jay Watamaniuk (Mass Effect 3, Mass Effect: Andromeda) recently tweeted out a photo of a party the studio was holding, but there's more to the screenshots than meets the eye. Should Anthem fans focus their attention into the top left portion of the pictures, they will notice what appears to be a booth with the words "Anthem VR" affixed to the top.

While seeing the phrase Anthem VR could easily make one jump to the conclusion that the game will be given the virtual reality treatment at some point, it's also important to look at it within the context of the party. After all, the booth might have been built solely for the staff and team members in attendance to take a trip through the environments designed so far in a tour-like or semi-interactive way.

In response to DolphinTeethXXL's post, another Redditor chimed in to share that they actually got a chance to try the Anthem VR booth, and to say BioWare won't be shipping any virtual reality versions of the title. Apparently, the attraction was made to be seen by internal staff only, but the user did go on to surmise that the studio could possibly release it as a "promotional experience" if there's enough demand for it.

Taking all of this into account, with the VR gaming market continuing to expand–PlayStation VR sales have surpassed 2 million, for instance–there's definitely lucrative potential for such a highly anticipated title like Anthem to foray into the medium. And with EA having announced its aim to make the game a franchise akin to Star Wars Battlefront, there's a chance for Anthem to at least receive standalone VR quests, as 2015's Battlefront released a Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission.

Anthem is currently scheduled to release sometime in the fall of 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
