Mark Darrah, the executive producer of Anthem, has been especially open on social media when it comes to revealing information about the game. Darrah has been answering fan questions, offering up more information about topics such as the way that time of day influences the game's enemies and even confirming that the game would include a toggle for damage numbers.

Over the last week or so, Darrah has again used social media to address one major fan question: will Anthem have seasonal events? When asked by a fan if the game would offer some way to celebrate Halloween, Christmas and other sorts of holidays, Darrah replied with a succinct "yes," declining to elaborate on what those seasonal events may look like.

Seasonal events are a staple of games like Anthem. For example, Fortnite has hosted Valentine's Day, Christmas and Halloween events (complete with new skins and map makeovers). Blizzard's multiplayer shooter Overwatch is also known for its seasonal game modes including Summer Games event Lucioball, Mei's Yeti Hunt in winter, and the Capture The Flag mode introduced to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Destiny 2, another connected shooter and a game which Anthem is frequently compared to, also hosts seasonal events. The Dawning adds themed decorations as well as special types of armor, loot, and special objectives. It's unclear what Anthem's seasonal events may look like but fans will be hoping that the game does something similar to the games listed here.

Some may even hope that Anthem's seasonal events add new lore to the game. BioWare has previously confirmed that it plans to add new story content to the game for years to come, so it's reasonable to think that these events could be a good chance to make that happen. For example, do the inhabitants celebrate the disappearance of the Shapers (the group that terraformed Anthem's world)? Do their traditions resemble those of Earth? BioWare has also said that the characters in the game didn't originate on Earth so it will be interesting to see the developer incorporate earthly traditions into a game where Earth doesn't exist.

Whatever BioWare is cooking up, the developer is thinking very carefully about its post-launch content plans for the game. Fans of the studio were incredibly upset by the decision not to release any DLC for Mass Effect: Andromeda, its previous game, so it will want to make amends here. Plus, post-launch support is vital for the success of games like Anthem and so a lot is riding on the quality of these seasonal events.

Anthem releases February 22, 2019, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
