As promised, Electronic Arts has delivered new details about Bioware's upcoming highly anticipated online multiplayer shooter, Anthem. During the EA Play E3 2018 press conference, Anthem's final release date was revealed to the world. Players will be able to pick up and play Anthem for PC, PS4, and Xbox One starting February 22, 2019.

Towards the end of EA's press conference, the publisher kicked off its Anthem block with an exciting in-engine cinematic trailer. After discussing certain key details about the game, including the four different suits that will serve as Anthem's classes, and the complete absence of gameplay-affecting microtransactions, EA then debuted new gameplay for Anthem. The release date announcement capped off Anthem's coverage during the press conference, though Twitter spoiled the news a few minutes early.

Anthem has had a bit of a rough time since it was initially announced during Electronic Arts E3 2017 press conference, receiving multiple delays. The delay out of late 2018 was especially frustrating for excited fans, but with the new release date, the wait doesn't seem quite so troubling. February 22 is early for "early 2019," and now that gameplay has been shown the wait is that much less stressful.

Anthem's coverage during the EA E3 press conference was only the beginning of a tidal wave of new information regarding the game. Several BioWare developers took to Twitter to answer as many questions as they could. For example, Anthem will feature no PvP at launch, it won't include romances like so many BioWare games have in the past, and it will feature dungeon and raid experiences along with matchmaking for all cooperative multiplayer.

Today's just the start of Anthem's huge information feast, as the BioWare developers plan on continuing to share information through E3. Big parts of the game aren't yet ready to be shown, such as the crux of the game's story or its end-game loop, but those details will be eventually be shared as we approach Anthem's release next year. There's still a long wait before Anthem launches, but at least now players have something to think about during the wait.

Anthem releases on February 22 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
