Anthem Causing Full System Crashes on PS4, Sony Reportedly Offering Refunds

There's no doubt that Anthem has had a rocky launch period, with many of the action-RPG's woes having led to it being one of the worst-reviewed BioWare games in the developer's history. The title has been plagued with plenty of problems since release, but one issue is arguably more serious than others, as it involves a bug that leads to complete system crashes on PS4.

According to multiple reports from Anthem players in various threads on the game's official subreddit, after attempting to close out the application via the PS4's menu, the console then totally shuts down as if the plug had been pulled from an outlet. Apparently, this is an issue that has persisted for some users ever since partaking in the game's VIP Demo back in February.

The problem seems to be so pervasive, that the Redditor known as "SoundAndFury87" chimed in on one of the Anthem threads in question to say that Sony is aware of the issue and supposedly offered the player a complete refund for their digital purchase of the Legion of Dawn edition of the game. The user dubbed "bluetidepro" corroborated SoundAndFury87's statements by saying that they, too, were able to receive a refund by contacting Sony through its support chat once they were able to confirm with the company that the game had completely crashed their PS4. Other Redditors, though, have claimed they were denied refunds despite having experienced the PS4 system crash issue.

For those unaware, Sony's return policy for digital items is typically quite stringent, with the company's stance on the matter reading that players "can cancel a digital content purchase within 14 days from the date of transaction, provided that [they] have not started downloading or streaming it." The only instance in which one can be eligible for a refund after using the product is if the tech firm considers the content to be "faulty".

As of now, there's no telling just how many PS4 players have been affected by this particular system crash issue via Anthem, but it's definitely not a bug to be taken lightly. After all, there's always the possibility of a console getting bricked after being shut down improperly.

Anthem is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
