In recent weeks BioWare has spent a lot of time teasing details about its upcoming game, Anthem, without giving too much away. But that will soon change, as BioWare confirms that the team will be revealing more details regarding the game’s storytelling mechanics at PAX West, which will happen on August 31-September 3, 2018.

Anthem’s executive producer Mark Darrah was asked via Twitter whether BioWare is planning to share more information concerning the game’s storytelling and choices. Darrah responded with a definite confirmation saying, “yes we will talk storytelling at PAX West.” In recent months, BioWare has shared details on the game’s progress and announced during the last E3 that Anthem’s story is designed in a way that additional content can be added in the future.

Other BioWare franchises such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age were not only known for their unique story and exciting gameplay, but also for the romantic conquests players can partake by wooing companions in the game. However, Anthem will not feature any romances, as confirmed by the game’s lead producer, Mike Gamble, saying that the game will focus on friendships rather than romances, which they feel is a better fit for Anthem’s online world.

Ever since the release of Mass Effect Andromeda, gamers worldwide have been discussing how Anthem's performance could impact the future of BioWare. Given the higher stakes this time around, some feel that BioWare’s future is now dependent on Anthem being a success. However, BioWare’s former senior creative director, James Ohlen, said that this is not the case. Ohlen believes that if Anthem bombs, it won’t necessarily be the end of BioWare, instead it will be an opportunity for the studio to “learn some lessons and apply it to the next game that comes out.”

As the release date of Anthem approaches, it is exciting yet nerve-racking at the same time to see what BioWare has in store for players this time around. Given all the information that has been revealed about the game so far, it appears that Anthem has something unique to offer, but the question is, will the game live up to players’ expectations? Will it finally redeem BioWare’s tainted reputation? Only time can tell.

Anthem releases February 22, 2019, for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
