There's no doubt that Anthem has had its fair share of issues ever since launching at the end of February, with one of the more pressing problems involving player reports of full system crashes on PS4 and Xbox One. It also appears as if the game itself still requires certain fixes, particularly when it comes to balancing weapons, as one player has now discovered that a Level 1 gun does the same damage as Masterworks.

According to the Redditor and Anthem player known as "YeetLordSupreme", the default weapon one currently gets when creating a new loadout is just as good if not better than any other weapon that's acquired later on. Apparently, when using the Level 1 common Defender rifle, it will show an output of 286 damage against normal Scar Trooper enemies. A Level 45 Masterwork Ralner's Blaze rifle, on the other hand, will display 1184 damage against normal Scar Troopers, but the former actually does more damage than the latter despite the numbers being shown.

YeetLordSupreme goes on to state that the Masterwork weapon takes takes 6 bullets to kill a normal Scar Trooper, while the Level 1 common Defender rifle only uses 4 rounds to defeat the enemy type. The Redditor explains that they experimented with different weapons and enemies, too, and while the numbers varied somewhat, the results always ended up the same with the Level 1 Defender rifle being the most effective weapon used.

It's also worth noting that the Ranger components used during this experiment were Airborne Advantage, Convergence Core, Defensive Bulwark, and Firearm Calibration Core - all of which increase weapon damage - so there's a possibility their effects are bugged or some other gameplay mechanic is broken in some manner. Nevertheless, one can see the aforementioned damage issue in action right here thanks to an in-game capture by the Redditor "beatpeet42", who shows that a Level 47 Legendary Ralner's Blaze with 225% damage actually does slightly less damage in 3 shots to a Scar Scout than a Level 1 Defender, even though the former shows more damage numbers than the latter.

Taking everything here into consideration, one can only hope for the sake of Anthem's player base that BioWare will address this issue in an update soon. After all, it appears as if using newly acquired weapons while leveling up serves little to no purpose right now, giving players no incentive to obtain guns that list better stats.

Anthem is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
