It won't be too much longer before Electronic Arts and BioWare's forthcoming action-RPG Anthem officially hits store shelves and sates players' curiosities about what many consider to be one of the most highly anticipated games of 2019. Nevertheless, the publisher and developer remain keen on sussing out some of the details regarding what should be expected from the title ahead of launch, with the companies' most recent gameplay video for the release focusing on open world free-roaming.

The latest gameplay video for Anthem specifically highlights how Freeplay Expeditions work, as the feature allows players autonomy so as to explore the title's open world and discover World Events, lore items, big baddies, and much more. It's worth noting, though, that the footage is from an Alpha gameplay build, so there's always the possibility of the end product not reflecting some of the features being shown off in the video.

Anthem's Freeplay Expeditions will let players take on simple missions that will become randomized each time they enter the open world, battle enemies, and fight different kinds of mini-bosses. Additionally, this kind of free-roaming affords one the chance to collect gear, craft materials, discover codexes with lore and information, and more. All of this is somewhat similar to the way in which other action-RPG shooters like Destiny and Warframe operate, but it appears as if BioWare has tweaked the formula a bit to make Anthem stand out from the competition.

Taking everything here into consideration, it will be interesting to see just how players will react to what all Anthem has to offer once the general public gets its hands on the title by way of the game's open beta at the beginning of next month. Should fans enjoy the demo once it goes live, it's worth noting that any progress made will not carry over to the main game when it releases in February, as the public beta starts everyone out at Level 10 as a means to provide a better feel for what the full title is going to offer.

Anthem is scheduled to launch on February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
