During its latest livestream, BioWare broke down its plans for Anthem's upcoming Elysian Stronghold Chests feature. BioWare had previously announced that Elysian Caches would be an in-game method for earning exclusive cosmetics, and have now confirmed that the feature will be included in Anthem's huge 1.0.4 update arriving next week.

According to BioWare, Elysian Chests will be added to the end of all three Anthem Strongholds. They're intended to be that extra reward that pushes Anthem players to finish every Stronghold rather than jumping out after claiming the first two chests. These Elysian Caches will reward a single vanity item or Masterwork crafting materials for every single player in the Stronghold. Players won't get duplicate vanity items, plus every item is exclusive to Elysian Chests and won't ever be available in Anthem's store.

In order to earn an Elysian Key, players will have to complete a specific Daily Challenge that will provide the key as a reward. The example Daily Challenge shown during the stream was to complete a Legendary Contract, so it doesn't look like BioWare is adding any new Daily Challenges or requiring certain difficulties to earn the Elysian Key. Only one such Challenge will be available each day.

After earning an Elysian Key via a Daily Challenge, Anthem players can then either go straight into a Stronghold or save the key for later. It can be kept as a currency just like Coin. Upon completing the final boss of the Stronghold, players will have an extended amount of time to open the Elysian Cache if they have a key. If all four players in the Stronghold choose to, they can each open the Elysian Chest and thus earn four rewards apiece. So while players can only earn one Elysian Key per day, they can keep going into Strongholds and potentially earn vanity items from their teammates opening the chest with their own keys.

BioWare is delivering on several promises with the delivery of Elysian Chests into Anthem. Not only does the feature provide players an in-game, achievement-based method of earning cosmetics without microtransactions, but it also gives players a reason to complete Strongholds through to the last boss and a source of masterwork Embers.

There's obviously much more than just Elysian Caches coming with patch 1.0.4 in Anthem, though. For instance, loot in Grandmaster 1 difficulty is being improved, and Stronghold bosses can now drop Legendary gear. BioWare's goal isn't just to make Strongholds more appealing, but to make all Anthem modes more rewarding.

Anthem is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
