Michael Gamble, the lead producer for Anthem, recently shed some light on both the game and the upcoming demos on Twitter, including what can be carried from the demo and into the release version of the game. Unfortunately, Gamble made it clear that Anthem players won't be able to carry their progress from one version to the next.

Gamble explained the reason the developers have decided they are not going to be allowing any progress transferred over because the demo will start players off at level 10. By starting off at a higher level, those who are playing in the demo will be able to get a better feel for what the full title is going to offer. BioWare, in turn, will get a better feel for what tweaks need to be made further along into a character's progression. This seems to be staying in line with how the developers have used a recent Alpha launch.

Just because progression isn't being carried over into the full game, that doesn't mean players won't be able to take something from the demos for their characters to have when the game goes gold. When BioWare announced the dates of the demos, it made it clear there will be special items that will carry over as a way for users who participated to show they were part of the Anthem test group.

Despite the fact that some Twitter users were a bit annoyed to learn their progress wouldn't carry over from either the January or February demos, Gamble's explanation makes plenty of sense. Still, the announcement stands out in an era where players are practically expecting to jump from a Beta to the full version without missing a beat.

One question that wasn't answered was whether or not BioWare has come up with some unique story missions for either of the upcoming demos. That would certainly blunt any frustration over having to start all over when Anthem launches. Considering how sensitive BioWare has been to having any story content leak out, it seems like that something like that could happen.

Anthem is set to release on February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
