It’s been almost a year since BioWare has released any new information on their newest IP Anthem. Joining Bethesda and Nintendo in teasing their new projects ahead of E3, the Mass Effect developers seem to be gearing up for something big after sending a mysterious message and changing their Facebook header.

The Anthem Facebook page has been inactive since last year, so BioWare could be releasing something ahead of the big event. The tweet, which seems like an encrypted message with the word “decoding” could tie into the mech suits seen in last year’s E3 trailer, is also the first activity seen since June 2017.

These teases on the game’s social media accounts could be building up the anticipation of possibly seeing some new gameplay at EA’s E3 press conference, EA Play, which is scheduled on Saturday, June 9 at 10:30 a.m. PST.

Expectations are high for Anthem given that its developers have said that they’re planning to take their newest IP in a very Destiny-like direction and even going so far as to say that it’ll be a ten-year journey for the game. It’s also coming from the same developers who gave us highly acclaimed RPGs like Mass Effect and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

So far, BioWare has revealed that the game does, in fact, have qualities similar to that of Destiny and The Division, such as looting and an open-world narrative. What’s also known is that Anthem will have co-op gameplay with different classes to choose from and gamers can jump into a party of four while donning mech suits known as javelins.

It’s hard to gauge how excited BioWare fans are about the new open-world shooter, since the developer’s latest release, Mass Effect: Andromeda, was met with negative receptions and carried tons of flaws. Also, EA hasn’t been doing too well with fans after Star Wars Battlefront 2's microtransaction controversies.

The tweet is purposely vague, but judging from last year’s reveal trailer, it’s interesting enough to see something from the upcoming RPG. With E3 around the corner and with the leaks from Walmart earlier this month generating hype, it seems that publishers like Bethesda and BioWare are willing to tease fans with what they’re planning to bring to the big stage.
