Over the past couple of days, BioWare's polarizing Anthem game has found itself at the center of a major controversy where it is causing PS4 consoles to experience a full system crash. EA is currently investigating the issue, and according to some reports, Sony has even offered refunds to those who have purchased the digital version of Anthem. However, it seems that the PS4 version of Anthem isn't the only one causing full system crashes, as some Xbox One owners have reported similar problems.

A Forbes reporter has written an article stating that he has experienced the full system crash while playing Anthem on his Xbox One X. Furthermore, the reporter claims to have talked to some other people who have also experienced the full system crash problems on Xbox One. But while it appears Anthem is also causing Xbox One consoles to crash, it does seem to be a much more widespread issue on the PlayStation 4 for whatever reason.

At the time of this writing, it's still unclear exactly what is causing the console crashes. There is some debate about what the culprit could be, but regardless it's a serious issue that hopefully gets fixed soon. Some have claimed that the crash actually bricked their console, and it would be a PR disaster for everyone involved if that keeps happening, assuming the claims are true.

The Anthem system crashing issues is the last thing that the game needs right now. BioWare was already facing an uphill battle with Anthem after the technical disaster that was the game's demo period, and the poor reviews it received at launch certainly didn't help matters. Combine all of this with criticisms aimed at Anthem's endgame content and its loot drop controversy, and it's hard to see how the co-op shooter can recover from this.

But anything is possible. BioWare has produced some of the most critically-acclaimed games in history, and perhaps it can still shift public perception of Anthem with its post-launch content updates. Right now, though, it seems the studio and EA should focus on ironing out the game's potentially devastating technical issues first.

Anthem is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
