Anime sisters are quite a rampant trope in most anime these days. They come in many different stereotypical personalities and behavioral traits, but most of them are portrayed in a positive and likable light. Some sisters even outright fight for their siblings by killing giants and glaring at any offenders. It's safe to say that evil anime sisters are quite a rare breed.

They do exist, however, and can be the stuff of nightmares. They don't come in mild doses, though. Most of the evil or bad anime sisters are extreme abusers, manipulators, or murderous harpies who harm just about anyone in their circle— including their siblings. These anime sisters went a little too far into the opposite end of the spectrum, so don't expect to survive a spat with them.

Updated on June 10, 2022, by Sid Natividad: A year into 2022, and more anime have been released. Consequently, more anime sisters have been introduced to the history of anime. Some of them aren't that good as to warrant another update to this list. And it's not just because they have some of the worst anime hairstyles either— some of these anime sisters are downright bestial or inappropriate.

Thus, it's only fair to call them out as bad examples of what fictional sisters should be in anime. They're far from ideal and at times, they can even hinder their siblings' social development depending on their actions. Five more terrible anime sisters of varying degrees of badness have been added to the list.

15 Daki – Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer Daki

One of the latest worst anime sisters ever, Daki from Demon Slayer's Entertainment District arc sets the bar quite high. She's violent, insecure, infantile, and just unapologetically cruel— even to her own brother. Seeing her and her brother's struggles by the season finale, it's easy to feel an ounce of sympathy for Daki.

However, a drop of water in a bucket of poison doesn't do anything to dilute the rancid concoction. Daki is still an egg who didn't just turn out bad but rotten to the core. This trait of hers was compounded when she was granted the powers of a demon. Her regular activities include killing courtesans and their customers alike while also leeching off and insulting her brother.

14 Mitsuki Kanzaki – Recently, My Sister Is Unusual

Mitsuki Kanzaki anime

Recently, My Sister is Unusual is an anime where the protagonist's sister's friend recently died. Said friend had a big crush on the male protagonist so when she died, she possessed the protagonist's sister, Mitsuki Kanzaki. Apparently, the ghost girl did this to get closer to the male protagonist. Ever since then, Mitsuki has been crossing way too many sibling boundaries as a possessed human being.

To make matters worse, the ghost, Hiyori, had an unrequited love for the male protagonist. This renders her unable to move on to the afterlife. Thus, Mitsuki became the vessel with which Hiyori will consummate his unrequited love for the former's brother (stepbrother, to be exact). While it's not technically Mitsuki's fault that she acts less like a stepsister, it's now hard to see her as a family member from her brother's perspective.

13 Aya Natsume – Tenjo Tenge

Tenjou-Tenge-Maya-Natsume-Aya-Natsume.Android-wallpaper-2160x1920

Tenjo Tenge is an anime about gang fights in high school. Almost everyone in the school is a martial artist upholding a long-standing feud. Some of the best of them are the Natsume sisters, Maya and Aya. Maya is the older one and has more combat experience, making her the current golden child and certified school heartthrob; so much so, that she even drew the attention of her sister's crush.

As expected, this led to a lot of friction between the sisters. Aya has a tendency to go rogue and attack her sister from time to time either out of envy or inferiority complex. To make matters worse, Aya has a condition where she sometimes goes berserk with bloodlust. Keeping her around as a sister is not exactly safe or stable.

12 Naomi Tanizaki – Bungou Stray Dogs

Naomi Tanizaki in bungou stray dogs

Seeing Naomi with her brother for the first time in Bungou Stray Dogs can be confusing. She often forces herself on her brother and proclaims to everyone that they're building their "Sweet Home in Alabama." Their familial bond is left ambiguous. So for all the viewers know, the two aren't blood-related. Or maybe they are and are alright with pursuing an incestuous relationship.

But either case is still disturbing. If they're not siblings and are just a couple, pretending to be the former in an incestuous relationship (just as Naomi seems to force it) doesn't seem like a healthy mindset. If it does turn out that they're siblings, well, no explanation is needed as to why incest is just wrong. Even nature disagrees with incest. Too bad Naomi Tanizaki doesn't care about nature's opinion.

11 Kobato Hasegawa – Haganai

Kobato Hasegawa anime

Kobato Hasegawa from Haganai is not unlike Naomi Tanizaki from Bungou Stray Dogs. She also has a brother named Kodaka with whom she holds an abnormally close relationship. Just how abnormal? She jumps on him while she's completely naked and is committed to upholding her brother complex. They're blood-related, by the way.

Kobato even goes as far as to act as a wall around her brother Kodaka, pushing away his potential girlfriends or even just female friends. To that end, Kobato is just inadvertently (or probably even deliberately) halting her brother's social development. Sure, it might look kawaii in anime, but in hindsight, she's doing more harm than good for her brother.

10 Tomoko Kuroki – Watamote

Watamote tomoko in her usual state

As far as terrible anime sisters go, Tomoki Kuroki isn't that bad. She's from Watamote, a slice-of-life anime about siblings where the sister is a socially inept and awkwardly inappropriate sibling. Tomoko is the sister here and as a nice change of scenery, it's actually his brother, Tomoki, who's more mature and neurotypical.

Tomoko, on the other hand, is a difficult housemate. She constantly manipulates Tomoki for everything, and she is so desperate to become popular that she even pesters him to do something about her social status. That wouldn't have been a problem if she only she'd stopped asking to see her brother's privates while thinking that's a normal sibling interaction.

9 Kyouko Kouda – March Comes In Like A Lion

3-Gatsu no Lion 2nd Season - 02 - Large 27 kyouko scene

Speaking of insecure and manipulative sisters, Kyouko Kouda from March Comes in Like a Lion is quite a handful. Kyouko has a little brother named Rei and both of them still live with their father, except the latter gets more attention and enthusiasm from dad because he's a shogi (Japanese Chess) prodigy.

This typically drives Kyouko angry and she finds every chance she gets to discourage Rei from pursuing shogi further. Moreover, Kyouko also bullies and belittles Rei, judging his little brother as a mooch and too dependent on their dad, even if she herself still relies on their father for finances.

8 Mai Zenin – Jujutsu Kaisen

Mai-Zenin-Death-in-Jujutsu-Kaisen

Insecurity and parental neglect seem to be common motives for many evil anime sisters. Mai Zenin is no exception and while she's not "evil" per se, her sister Maki might disagree. They're both on the same side as Jujutsu Sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen but Mai holds a severe grudge against her sister Maki because the latter is more talented and is considered she's the family's golden child.

As a result, when they got the chance to duel each other, Mai went all out and was prepared to kill her sister. She's also one of the few Jujutsu Sorcerers who carries a modern lethal weapon; in this case, a revolver. She uses her powers to create a wildcard bullet out of thin air, catching her enemies off-guard with a killing blow. Using that on a sibling is just cold.

7 Akua Shuzen – Rosario + Vampire

Akua Shuzen from rosario vampire

While on the topic of a bloodthirsty sister, Akua Shuzen from Rosario + Vampire takes that a little too literally......because she's a vampire. Unlike her sister Moka, Akua is more of a traditional vampire who doesn't care much about humans and considers them as livestock to be killed.

In fact, she even wanted to resurrect Dracula in order to wipe out humanity. That didn't bode well for Moka since her boyfriend was once a human and she's grown more mature beyond her kind's impulses. Strangely, Akua does things that she thinks will make Moka love her as a sister. Apparently, Akua thinks human genocide is going to cut it.

6 Diva Goldsmith – Blood+

Diva Goldsmith from blood+

Another vampire sister that's far from being a sane relative would be Diva Goldsmith from Blood+. She's very much a textbook psychopath and to make matters worse, she's a vampire. Diva mostly kills for pleasure and follows her sadistic impulses, making her a loose cannon.

To that end, she's the exact opposite of her twin sister Saya, who's also the protagonist of the show. One can't fully blame Diva for her behavior though – as a child, she received extensive painful experiments at the hands of humans. Saya was luckily spared from such a fate.

5 Sylvia Ikaruga Misurugi – CROSS ANGE Rondo Of Angel And Dragon

Sylvia Ikaruga Misurugi from cross ange

Sylvia Ikaruga Misurugi from CROSS ANGE Rondo of Angel and Dragon is a turbulent princess of a sister who is heavily prejudiced— even towards her dear sister Angelise. Initially, Sylvia is a kind girl and even held Angelise dear after the latter helped her walk again from a perceived paralysis.

RELATED: Most Satisfying Anime Endings

This relationship quickly changed when Sylvia finds out that Angelise is a "Norma," or someone without the ability to use magic. After finding out this fact, Sylvia immediately hated her sister and even relished the thought of whipping her in front of a crowd.

4 Junko Enoshima – Danganronpa

danganronpa-junko-enoshima-featured-Cropped

Danganronpa is an anime best described as a cross between Among Us and any battle royale game. That's because it involves a locked academy full of bright students who didn't know they can only escape if they successfully kill a fellow student without getting caught.

Junko Enoshima is thus one of the villains in the school and she's a deceptive one. She has this fetish for despair and believes it's the only emotion worth having. She goes out of her way to cause despair for all her fellow classmates to the point where she quickly becomes the main antagonist.

3 Kurome – Akame Ga Kill

Akami-Holding-Her-Sister-As-She-Dies

Kurome from Akame Ga Kill has a similar backstory to the vampire twins of Blood+. She also has a sister and both of them were drafted at a young age to become special highly-trained assassins. Of the two sisters, however, Kurome got a little too immersed in their assassin conditioning.

RELATED: Best Anime By Ufotable, Ranked

She not only killed her targets but also toyed with their remains. Kurome even takes it a step further and collects her dead friends' corpses as trophies to remind herself of the friendship. To her sister's misfortune, Kurome even began fantasizing about adding her to her "collection" so that they can be together forever, regardless of their health.

2 Satsuki Kiryūin – Kill La Kill

Satsuki Kiryūin from kill la kill

Kill la Kill is an over-the-top action anime that also involves a ridiculous school where students have to fight for their lives. At the top of the show's military school is Satsuki Kiryuin, the initial antagonist of the anime. She has this persistent urge to kill another student named Ryuko Matoi because she accused the latter of killing her father.

Hence, the two of them have frequent supposedly lethal clashes. It wasn't until later in the anime that both women find out that they were actually sisters and that it was their mother who wanted them to fight. Even so, Satsuki isn't exactly the most pleasant sibling as she's competitive, authoritative, and too arrogant.

1 Gretel – Black Lagoon

hansel and gretel from black lagoon

For the worst of the worst when it comes to evil anime sisters, Gretel from Black Lagoon takes the cake (or the gingerbread house in this case). Gretel, along with her brother Hansel, are trained assassins conditioned to be the most sadistic and emotionless killers in their field.

Both Hansel and Gretel's expertise isn't limited to killing either. During their downtime, they frequently engage in snuff film production, where they participate in a cavalcade of atrocious acts. Also, both of them are just kids, making their existence in their line of work a lot more disturbing.
