Anime protagonists have always been the main highlight of any series, so the creators always put in extra effort to make sure that these characters have all the qualities which would make them likable. Yet there are many anime characters, who are not liked by the fans.

It is important to remember that these characters are not detrimental to the series and in fact, they intrigue the fans with their behavior. These characters have one or more qualities that make them unlikable. These characters have good backstories, but even that is not enough to justify their acts.

8 Eren Yeager (Attack On Titan)

Eren Yeager changed drastically over the course of the series. He started out as a nice boy, who wanted to avenge his mother and prevent the Titans from ever killing anyone ever again, but gradually, Eren turned into a complete maniac, who went on to annihilate more than half of the world's population.

Eren had his reasons for taking such a massive step, but it wasn't enough to justify his wrongdoings. He is definitely a well-written character and the fans can enjoy his character development, but his actions especially in the final season were outrageous.

7 Emma (The Promised Neverland)

Emma is the main character of The Promised Neverland. She is an incredibly intelligent kid, and once she found out about the horrors of the world, she wanted nothing more than to save her siblings from being consumed by the demons.

Emma was against the demons, and she wanted to fight them at all costs. As the story progressed, Emma became more and more idealistic, she wanted to have a world where demons and humans could coexist, which was simply shocking. By taking such a massive leap, Emma definitely lost a lot of fans.

6 Sakura (Naruto)

Currently, she is among the strongest ninjas in the entire world, but there was a time when Sakura was hated more than any other character in the series. She was useless at times and always cried about everything. All she wanted was to be with Sasuke, and she did not care about the consequences of her actions. She also picked up on Naruto despite knowing that he was an orphan with no friends.

Her character wasn't devoid of development and in Part II, Sakura became more likable. Despite Kishimoto's best efforts, the whiny Sakura from Part I left a lasting impression on the minds of the fans, and to this day, many fans do not believe that she is a good character.

5 Haruhi Suzumiya (The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya)

Haruhi is a controversial character. To some, she appears to be fun-loving and lively, who makes everything seem more vibrant, while to the others, Haruhi comes off as an extremely manipulative character. She is very selfish, and she will do everything in her power to make sure that she gets what she wants.

She likes to pressure the people until they give in and go along with her decision. Haruhi also shows no gratitude towards her friends, who constantly put up with her demands.

4 Yagami Light (Death Note)

Not many anime characters can outsmart Yagami Light. Originally, Light was a high school student, who just wanted to focus on his studies. However, once he got his hands on the Death Note everything changed. Light became drunk with power, and he decided to punish all the criminals in the world.

This worked out for a while, but once the L and the other organizations made him a target, Light started to kill everyone who opposed him, even innocent people. Light had absolutely no regard for the lives of other people. All he wanted was to get rid of L and rule the world as he saw fit.

3 Boruto (Boruto: Naruto Next Generations)

Boruto Uzumaki is the main lead of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. He is a well-written character, but because of his father, Boruto has received a lot of criticism. Unlike Naruto, who suffered tremendous hardships while growing up, Boruto had absolutely no problems at all.

On multiple occasions, he called Naruto a bad father, but he had no idea how difficult Naruto's life was, and because of this reason, Boruto got into the bad books of every fan. They could not bear to see their childhood hero being called something that he wasn't. Furthermore, when Boruto cheated in the exams, he dragged his father's name through the dirt, which made him even more detestable.

2 Asta (Black Clover)

When Black Clover anime was released, it gained a lot of criticism because of Asta. The biggest problem that the fans had was that Asta was too loud. In the very first episode, Asta looked like an exciting character, who was filled with energy, but just after a few minutes, Asta began to scream, which was acceptable for a while.

But, as the series continued so did Asta's screaming, and it reached the point where his voice became unbearable. Many fans dropped the series because of Asta's constant yelling.

1 Rachel (Tower Of God)

When the fans saw Bam and his dedication to Rachel, they believed that they would form an outstanding couple. Being separated from Rachel took a lot of toll on Bam's mental health. It drove Bam to the point, where he was ready to go to the Tower in order to find Rachel.

Bam's efforts finally paid off as he managed to reunite with Rachel, but nothing could have prepared him for what was about to come next. Rachel cleverly hid her true intentions and took Bam outside, and she used this opportunity to throw him out of his bubble. This incident surprised the fans and made her an extremely detestable character.
