Lelouch is a character greatly driven by vengeance. Even though he belonged to Brittania’s royal family, he was exiled to Japan for confronting the king following the death of his mother. The banished prince spent his days in exile living as a regular Japanese citizen until he received the power of the Geass, an ability that allowed him to command people against their will if certain conditions were met.

Even as a powerless high school student, Lelouch possessed an astounding intellect and extraordinary tactical prowess. However, he could not act against the imperial family with his intelligence alone. After obtaining his Geass, Lelouch began to enact his revenge against the empire in a relentless fashion. He ruthlessly dispatched his enemies and took countless lives on his quest for revenge. Whatever compassion he previously had for his kin was tossed aside as he treated most of them with the utmost contempt.

Eva initially had a distasteful personality. She was far from perfect and was by no means a good person. However, it was not until her rejection by Kenzo Tenma that she became the worst possible version of herself. Despite appearing as Tenma’s fiancée at the beginning of the series, she abruptly discarded him due to his demotion from his position as Chief of Surgery, an action that perfectly encapsulated her uncaring nature.

Following the death of her father, however, she begged Tenma to take her back and was unsurprisingly rejected. She repeatedly attempted to revive her relationship with Tenma, but after failing, she resolved to make his life as miserable as possible. She encouraged the police to pursue him and accused him of murdering her father. She goes to great lengths to ensure his suffering and is extremely irritated at the thought of his happiness.

Following his father's murder at the hands of his future captives, he became an irritable recluse with nothing but revenge on his mind. Thorfinn possessed immense talent as a fighter, but his terrible temperament often hindered him. This was also apparent in his daily life as he constantly refused to engage his companions in any form of conversation, focusing solely on taking the head of his father's killer Askeladd.

5 Ryūnosuke Akutagawa – Bungou Stray Dogs

Akutagawa is not a character who feels vengeful for an event that happened in his past. His hostile behavior is instead fueled by the harsh conditions he grew up in as a child. In addition, he is driven by a constant need for acknowledgment from his former mentor Dazai Osamu, and is greatly infuriated when characters he believes to be below him are given the proper recognition he craves.

He is a largely feared member of the Port Mafia and holds a special form of disdain for the weak. He has moments that highlight a calm and collected side to him, but for the most part, he is easily irritable and possesses a strong intolerance for incompetence.

4 Kurapika – Hunter x Hunter

Kurapika is the last known survivor of the Kurta clan, a clan of individuals well known for their eyes that glow bright red should they get emotionally unstable. Due to the jewel-like brilliance of these peculiar eyes, they became considered valuable treasures worldwide, unfortunately leading to the vicious murder of most of the clan's people.

The massacre of his peopleiangered Kurapika and set him on an unrelenting path of vengeance toward the culprits. He is a strong and knowledgeable figure, but when spurred on by the memories of his past, he becomes highly unpredictable. He has repeatedly shown that he will spare no effort in avenging his clan and does not care about the means he has to take to achieve it.

3 Scar – Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Scar is a vengeful man, despising alchemy and its effects on his homeland. He belongs to the Ishvalan people, a tribe who had their homes and livelihoods destroyed during the Ishval Civil War. Following the brutal war, Scar embarked on a journey to deliver retribution to those responsible for the destruction of Ishval.

Levi is one of the most famous characters in Attack on Titan. Though he may not look it, he is battle-hardened and possesses vast experience in dealing with titans. However, this experience comes with a price, as he has been forced to witness the death of many comrades while out on the battlefield.

Partly due to his time as a soldier and that spent in the care of Kenny Ackerman, Levi grew up to be a cold, irritable and condescending person. He has rare moments where he shows compassion and respect to some, but he is mainly pictured to be disagreeable while also earning the fear and respect of those around him.

1 Tomura Shigaraki – My Hero Academia

During his first appearance in the My Hero Academia anime, Tomura could best be described as an embodiment of irritation. He was constantly seen tearing his skin as a reaction to the slightest inconvenience, and he held no regard for the well-being of others either. Further into the series, however, he develops different ways of expressing frustration, and his general hatred for all things living surfaces in a terrifying manner.

Tomura despised everything about society, harboring a special kind of loathing for the idea of heroes. He claims their ideals are superficial and that they ignore situations that are not convenient for them to handle. He blames them for the existence of evil and vows to tear them down while becoming the pinnacle of evil himself.
