Todd McFarlane's comic book superhero Spawn has been in the spotlight quite a bit recently following his introduction into NetherRealm Studios' Mortal Kombat 11 as the final DLC fighter in its first Kombat Pack. Now McFarlane has teased that the character may very well be returning to the silver screen soon with a 90-minute animated flick starring Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner.

While on ComicBook.com's Talking Shop show Friday, McFarlane said work on a project backed by Blumhouse Pictures has been completed for a number of years — everything but the animation and sound effects essentially, including voice lines by actors like Foxx. Now work on the rebooted movie starring the Image Comics' character appears to have started up again, with McFarlane waiting for everyone to "shake their heads to the same script."

An animated movie is not the only Spawn-related venture that McFarlane has been involved with as of late. In April he helped launch a Kickstarter campaign for a Spawn action figure that has since raised over $2 million above its $100,000 goal.

The potential new Spawn movie would be entirely separate from the 1997 live-action film starring Michael Jai White as the titular character.

An animated movie based on Spawn is currently in development.
