Last year saw the return of the beloved Animaniacs as the Warner trio made the transition from '90s television to modern streaming. Come November, Yakko, Wakko, and Dot will do it again, only now with some '80s inspiration, as seen in the new season two teaser.

Animaniacs was definitely a hit for Hulu, as soon after its release the animated series received confirmation for a second season, with recent announcements also lining up a 10-episode season three. The new reveal comes almost one year after season one of the rebooted Animaniacs, thus already causing intrigue over just where the Warner brothers’ unique brand of humor will take audiences next, though that place might just be Thundera.

News of the Animaniacs' return was dropped at New York Comic Con as part of Hulu's panel for the event, and unlike the usual dish of '90s nostalgia that Animaniacs usually serves, this one travels even further back in time. The brief clip sees Yakko, Wakko, and Dot conjure their inner Thundercats to the tune of a ridiculous and somewhat catchy “'80s cats are back” theme, right before a few more popular relics show up, and it ends with the November 5 release date for show's entire season.

Those with a keen eye will notice that the trailer also adds a few Transformers, G.I.Joe, and -possibly- Mazinger Z references in a skit that will only be part a tiny part of what writers have in mind for new Animaniacs segments. As detailed by the show’s spokespeople, season two brings back a higher dosage of Pinky and the Brain, newcomers Starbox and Cindy, plus a few other characters who didn’t make it in the last time around.

The big takeaway here is what this Thundercats mashup tells fans about the Animaniacs’ taxonomy, a long-drawn joke about Yakko, Wakko, and Dot, as not even they seem to be aware or concerned about whether Animaniacs are cats, dogs, odd monkeys, or something in between. Of course, the '80s cats classification is hardly temporary, as the three have more or less agreed they are simply two Warner brothers and a Warner sister who are all very aptly living in a Warner water tower.

Last year the Animaniacs did gain some momentum, going as far as managing to claw their way inside Animal Crossing, yet the most interesting aspect about the series will be seeing how it continues to adapt its humor to modern times. After all, Animaniacs already had to drop its certified Nurse character, as well as the accompanying “hello, nurse!” line immortalized during its heyday.

Animaniacs season 2 will be available on November 5, 2021, only on Hulu.
