Nintendo's Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been an unmitigated success. Since launching in March, the game has continued to break sales records all over the world, and it was just reported that New Horizons passed six million physical sales in Japan, becoming the fifth game in history to do so. One major draw for the game is the creativity it affords players, and fan creations continue to appear online even as the initial fervor has died down.

Twitter user Taylor Shae posted a series of images to social media Wednesday which depict a set of Animal Crossing: New Horizons player outfits designed after the Warner siblings; Yakko, Wakko, and Dot; from the recently-revived cartoon series Animaniacs. The variety show ran from 1993 to 1998, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), primarily centered around the Warner siblings' sitcom antics and pop culture lampooning as they caused havoc around the Warner Bros. studio lot or in historical settings.

Hulu revived Animaniacs with its original voice cast for a new run of 13 episodes, debuting on the streaming service earlier this month, which appears to be the impetus for Shae's take on the characters in Animal Crossing. They rampage around an island alongside two other players to take pictures with some in-character personality sprinkled in, such as Wakko and Dot laughing at one of their sibling's confidently-delivered lines.

While the costuming to recreate the Warner siblings is pretty spot-on, from the trio's black-and-white bodies to their varied outfits, the use of Animal Crossing reactions helps elevate these images to something fitting their "zany" personalities. The final image depicts the three sitting together in front of a fall-themed Resident Services, which is a new reaction from Animal Crossing: New Horizons' winter update.

This latest Animal Crossing released at a perfect time to have a big cultural impact. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic broke out early in 2020, leaving much of the world quarantining at home - with some countries still dealing with spiking cases as of this writing. Animal Crossing: New Horizons' focus on building communities during this time is one reason it has been nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards.

Innumerable references to video games, television shows, movies, and more have been created in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the Internet will likely continue to see them for a long time. New Horizons will get its next major update in January, and Animaniacs may be a good show to catch up on in the meantime.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch.
