Amblin Entertainment’s classic 90s cartoon Animaniacs is set to premiere this fall with the original voice cast returning. The series has a two-season order and will be available exclusively on Hulu.

It has taken about 3 years for the Animaniacs revival to get off the ground, but it looks like all that’s left are the finishing touches. Whether or not that post-production and animation work will be impacted by the current crisis is unclear, but there appears to be some confidence in hitting the fall window.

Produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment production company, Animaniacs was one of several cartoons released in the 90s with a sophisticated slant. At its core, the show was still geared towards kids, but the jokes and writing were smart enough to also appeal to adults. Those that have gone back and watched reruns of the show on Hulu have found a lot of innuendo and subtlety that they would have never picked up as a kid.

And like most cartoons, Animaniacs wouldn’t be the same without the voices of Yakko, Wakko, and their sister Dot. Luckily, Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, and Tress MacNeille are all confirmed to return for the revival.

In addition to the Animaniacs trio, Paulsen also confirmed that his partner in the Pinky and the Brain skits, Maurice LaMarche (as the Brain) will be returning as well. It seemed practically a given that Pinky and the Brain would return for an Animaniacs reboot, but whether or not voice actors for some of the shows other famous sketches is unclear.

Although the titular Animaniacs are a key part of the cartoon, the show also featured a ton of different sketches that worked as self-contained stories or gags. So hopefully some of the other key components of the show, like Buttons and Mindy, Good idea/Bad Idea, and Slappy the Squirrel return as well.

The Animaniacs reboot will premiere exclusively on Hulu in fall 2020.
