After it was delayed last week, Nintendo finally hosted its September Nintendo Direct presentation, and it's safe to say that it lived up to the hype. The Nintendo Direct confirmed some games that fans have been hoping to see on the Switch, including Luigi's Mansion 3 and Animal Crossing, both of which are coming to the console at some point in 2019.

Unfortunately, there aren't many details available for Animal Crossing on the Switch except that it's in active development and is aiming for a release next year. Presumably, it will offer similar gameplay as past Animal Crossing games, meaning players will be working to pay off a substantial debt to Tom Nook, being rewarded with increasingly larger houses along the way. It will also likely give players a variety of furniture to collect that they can use to decorate their homes, and if past games in the series are any indication, multiplayer gameplay will almost definitely be a major focus.

As for when Nintendo will reveal more information about Animal Crossing on the Switch, that remains to be seen. However, there is no shortage of opportunities between now and its eventual release date for the Big N to properly pull the curtain back on the next mainline Animal Crossing game. It's possible Nintendo will reveal the first gameplay footage of Animal Crossing at The Game Awards this year, or maybe it will wait for a Nintendo Direct presentation next year or even hold off on showing anything until E3 2018.

While some fans may be disappointed that Nintendo didn't reveal any concrete details about Animal Crossing on the Switch, others will be happy that the game has finally been announced. We've had clues that Animal Crossing was in the works for the Switch, like when Nintendo renewed the trademark earlier this year, and when Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime teased that Nintendo was looking for new ways to "reintroduce" the IP.

Now that Animal Crossing for the Switch has been officially announced, it will be interesting to see what Reggie meant by his comments once we finally see the game in action.

Animal Crossing will release in 2019, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
