Today is a big day for Nintendo. The company is celebrating a year since its first foray into the mobile games market with Super Mario Run and to mark the occasion, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is offering a special gift to its players in the form of a Mario-themed accessory.

Anyone who logs into Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp from now until January 15, 2018 will find a "big bro's hat" waiting for them in their mailboxes. This gives players a full month to claim their prize and adorn their villagers with Mario's iconic headwear.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp released worldwide in late November this year and came with a couple of firsts for the series. It marked the first title to appear on mobile devices and the first to have microtransactions. The gameplay is similar to previous installments, and players will be spending most of their time making friends with villagers, crafting furniture, and farming for resources, like fish and fruit. The major difference is that crafting and tasks can be sped up by using the game's special currency: Leaf Tickets.

These changes haven't been sitting well with some longtime fans. Actress and supermodel Chrissy Teigen was outspoken with her criticism of the mobile title, saying it, "lacks the heart," of past games. In her opinion, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is geared more toward newbies and not veterans of the series. Of course, she also ended her complaints by admitting she'd spent over one hundred dollars on the game, which proves that her gripes don't carry that much weight.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is currently celebrating the holidays with a myriad of festive furniture items. The holiday items can be purchased with candy canes, which can be earned by fulfilling requests from the animal denizens. There is also a selection of missions that will reward players with additional candy canes, as well as Leaf Tickets.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is available now on Android and iOS.
