Animal Crossing is known for its in-depth holiday celebrations. A great example of this is the Harvest Festival, the series' version of American Thanksgiving. While the early games shared tasks for the November event, Animal Crossing: New Leaf revamped the holiday to give the player some more to do.

This edition of the holiday allows players to interact with various villagers and objects in town to earn rewards from the face of the show, Franklin. From 3 to 9 p.m., players can help him out in making the best meal ever. But how does it all work? Here is everything players can do during the Harvest Festival.

10 Talk To Franklin

Franklin the turkey arrives at the town plaza during the Harvest Festival with his cooking station all set up. In previous installments of the series, Franklin hid from the rest of the town as he rightfully believed he was going to be the main meal. In New Leaf, Franklin takes on a less morbid role as he is the chef for the festival. He tells the player he needs help creating four courses for the meal, which includes salad, soup, entree, and dessert. The goal is for players to help him find all the ingredients for each dish.

9 Tree Shaking

First, it's important to understand what needs to be done. Each ingredient is somewhere in town. Players just need to know where to find them. One example of ingredient hunting is finding and shaking trees. Specifically, players will need to shake fruit trees in order to collect fruit ingredients for various dishes. Some fruits need to come from islands, such as lemons and bananas. There are some recipes, especially in the dessert section, that will also require beehives as a secret ingredient. Every non-fruit tree has a chance to have a beehive so shaking every tree is important.

8 Plucking Mushrooms

During the fall season, players will discover mushrooms growing next to many trees throughout town. There's also a chance mushrooms will grow in any season if a town has a stump with a special pattern. These mushrooms serve a few purposes, such as selling them for profit.

They also may be furniture in disguise, specifically of the mush series. However, it's important to stockpile on the mushroom collection in town. There are many dishes Franklin could make that will require a specific mushroom. Variants include round mushroom, flat mushroom, and skinny mushroom.

7 Aquatic Needs

Fishing is also a key part of this holiday as fish serve as the main ingredients for most dishes. Luckily, most of the fish Franklin asks for involves ocean fish such as sea bass, red snapper, and olive flounder. Franklin may also ask for materials that are underwater, which requires the player to have a swimsuit to go diving. This will include clams, oysters, and seaweed to name a few. All of these creatures Franklin asks for will be available during the 3 to 9 p.m. window, making it easier to find the ingredient he needs before the holiday is over.

6 Villager Trading

This is the crucial element of the Harvest Festival that players need to keep in mind in order to be successful. There are some ingredients that aren't obtainable by any regular means. This includes sugar, milk, and wheat flour. There may also be specific fruit that may not be growing in town. Villagers in chef's outfits will have ingredients like these if players simply get them the fish they want. This is where river fish come into play as most fish villagers ask for are in the stream. This can include black bass, carp, crucian carp, and barbel steed.

5 Create A Salad

The start of the meal is a salad. Each meal has five variants that Franklin could ask the player to work on. Each variant has three ingredients, plus a secret ingredient that players can include to get a prize. For the salads, this includes fish salad (horse mackerel, red snapper, vinegar, and lemon), fruit salad (apple, orange, vinegar, and beehive), mixed salad (apple, horse mackerel, skinny mushroom, and vinegar), mushroom salad (flat Mushroom, round mushroom, vinegar, and apple), and oyster salad (oyster, seaweed, vinegar, and lemon).

4 Cook Up Soup

The next dish is a variant of soup. Most of the soups are similar to the salads, with a few exceptions. Four variants Franklin can ask for are fruit soup (cherry, milk, peach, and lemon), mushroom stew (flat mushroom, milk, round mushroom, and butter), shellfish cream (clam, milk, scallop, and butter), and soup de Poisson (olive flounder, red snapper, sea bass, and lemon).

The fifth variant is a popular hot and sour soup from Thailand known as Tom Yum Goong. To make this, players must collect lobster, skinny mushroom, vinegar, and coconut.

3 The Main Course

The third part Franklin needs help with is the main course for the night. This section is very fish-based, so players need to have a fishing rod in hand. The five dishes Franklin could ask for is Barred Knifejaw Sauté (barred knifejaw, butter, round mushroom, and lemon), Dab Meunière (dab, skinny mushroom, wheat flour, and vinegar), Olive Flounder Meunière (olive flounder, flat mushroom, wheat flour, and vinegar), Red Snapper Poele (red snapper, skinny mushroom, wheat flour, and lemon), and Sea Bass Sauté (Butter, round mushroom, sea bass, and lemon).

2 Finish With Dessert

The final course of the evening is a delicious dessert. This section is fruit-centric, so players will need to shake trees strategically to avoid not having ingredients. Once players give Franklin all of the ingredients for this dish, they will get a prize for their hard work. The five desserts Franklin can make are apple pie (apple, lemon, wheat flour, and beehive), banana custard pie (banana, lemon, sugar, and beehive), cherry pie (cherry, lemon, wheat flour, and beehive), coconut cream pie (Coconut, lemon, sugar, and beehive) and full fruit pie (Butter, orange, pear, and lemon).

1 The Reward

Players that dedicate the time to helping Franklin can be rewarded in different ways. Delivering all of the ingredients, not including secret ingredients, will result in him giving you either a piece of the Harvest series or a fruit basket. The fruit basket can't be bought anywhere else, but the harvest series furniture can be bought from the shop leading up to the festival. If the player can successfully nail every single secret ingredient, the player will receive a cornucopia, which is another unique item that can't be found anywhere else.
