Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the latest title in Nintendo's long-running village-sim, is packed with colorful characters. As players build up their New Horizons' island communities, they'll help a variety of creatures ranging from Blathers the Owl curator, to the Dodo Airlines brothers.

One of the game's most unusual characters is also one of its most elusive, only appearing to those players who like to wander about at night. Wisp the Ghost is a nervous phantom who can pop up randomly on a player's island after the first couple of days. Like many of New Horizon's side characters, Wisp needs something from the player, and here's how to help him.

Ghost Hunting

Like Gulliver the albatross, Wisp will only appear occasionally on the island, floating around a random location after dark. He also won't give any sign that he's arrived, and players hoping to meet him will have to regularly search at night.

If a player interacts with him while he's doing his haunting, Wisp will be so startled he'll split into five different pieces. These fragments of Wisp's spirit will be scattered across the island, and will need to be gathered back together. Though it only seems fair for the player to do this, as they were the one who spooked him in the first place. Plus, there will be a reward for helping to restore Wisp.

Finding the Five Pieces

The five fragments of Wisp's spirit look like little blue flames, and will bob as they move around the island. Unfortunately, the fragments don't seem to be interested in helping players find them, and will wander randomly. This means that players may need to double-back and cover some areas twice before they can find them all.

Once a player has found a fragment of Wisp's spirit, they can catch it using their bug net. To do this, hold A and approach the fragment, then release to swing. The five pieces won't disappear if players go into a building, but they will if they're not all found before the sun rises. Providing a player has managed to catch the five pieces in time, they can use them to reform Wisp, who will offer them a new or expensive reward for putting him back together.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
