If players come across a random piece of furniture lying about in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they should pull out their nets and take a swing because they may have come across the Walking Leaf.

July is here, which means lots of new and interesting bugs are available to catch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for folks in the Northern Hemisphere. Thanks to the game's heavy Japanese aesthetic influence, summers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are associated with chirping cicadas and massive beetles. But one very unique addition to the Critterpedia is the Walking Leaf.

Where to Find a Walking Leaf

This new creepy-crawly friend is special in that it won't look like a normal bug in-game. While most bugs hang out on trees or dawdle on flower-tops, this bug is an earth-crawler, but it remains very still and disguises itself as a furniture leaf while sitting beneath trees. Players should be wary of what looks like items randomly lying around their island and not try to pick it up or risk scaring it away.

When Do Walking Leafs Spawn

The Walking Leaf is a bug available in the summertime, specifically from July through September, so players will have plenty of time to donate the critter to Blathers's museum. But veterans to the series predecessor Animal Crossing: New Leaf should keep in mind that the specifications of the Walking Leaf are not quite the same. For example, it can be caught during any hour, different to how it used to be available only during the hours of 8 am-5 pm.

For players looking to make some extra bucks, sadly it isn't worth very much at 600 bells (or  900 bells if players wait to sell them to Flick). But thankfully, many of the larger beetles newly available this month will sell for at least 8,000 bells. Luckily this also means that the Walking Leaf won't be exceptionally rare and players should be able to catch it very quickly. There aren't too many new fish in New Horizons in July, so players will have to focus on their bug-catching skills if they want to make some bank or fill out their Critterpedias.

Lots of new activities are on its way this summer, though players who want to go swimming in Animal Crossing will have to wait a little bit longer until July 3rd. Now is the perfect time to practice for the next bug-off.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
