With over 400 villagers that are eligible to live on the player's island, it is difficult to meet every single non-playable character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Of course, some animals are more popular than others, which is the case for the cats in the game, given that the two most popular villagers in the entire franchise are Raymond and Ankha.

However, there are of course other species of animals that are often overlooked given the focus on the most popular ones. Such is the case for the octopus villagers in the game, who are the rarest ones in the entire franchise with only four characters. Now, we look into cow villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and although they are not rare, they are also overlooked by most players.

Naomi

First on the list is the snooty cow villager Naomi who first appeared in the franchise in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Of course, given her snooty personality, Naomi will often see herself as superior to the player and the rest of the villagers, and will often be cold and dismissive at first. Moreover, Naomi is obsessed with anything related to fashion, and will often gossip about other villagers and judging the way they dress. Interestingly enough, people say that her name was inspired by real-life supermodel Naomi Campbell, which is why she is very interested in fashion, which is also her primary hobby.

Norma

Next is the adorable cow Norma who has a normal personality, which is vastly different from that of Naomi. Her name is a reference to the American farmer and artist Norma Lyon, who is also known as "The Butter Cow Lady" due to her artworks sculpted out of butter. Norma first appeared in the Japanese-exclusive game Animal Forest e+, and her first stint in Animal Crossing was in New Leaf before eventually returning to the franchise in New Horizon. Given her normal personality, Norma is able to mix well with almost all personality types, though she may come in conflict with cranky and sisterly villagers. Her character designs sport a pink skin tone with yellow horns, a white muzzle, and a black tuft of hair.

Patty

Unlike Norma and Naomi, Patty is a veteran Animal Crossing villager who has appeared in every single mainline game in the franchise. Patty has a peppy personality, which means that she will often appear excitable in conversations, and will tend to overreact to the most trivial things. Additionally, players will find that Patty is always in a good mood and is easy to befriend. During conversations, Patty may get upset when the player disagrees with what she has to say. She gets along with almost all personality types except for cranky and snooty villagers, whose personalities are opposite to hers. Given her high energy, she will often remark how the other villagers are "old" and "boring", given that they could not keep up with her upbeat personality. Lastly, players should remember that Patty has a short attention span, which means that she will easily forget arguments or uncompleted tasks that she gave the player.

Tipper

Last on the list is Tipper who is a snooty cow villager who first appeared in the franchise in Animal Crossing: Wild World. Funny enough, her name is derived from the term "cow tipping", which means to sneak up on a sleeping or unsuspecting cow and pushing it/tipping it over just for fun. This also explains why Tipper would often refer to the player as "pushy". Of course, given her snooty personality, Tipper's favorite thing to do is to gossip about other villagers. Although her personality would suggest that she should be mean towards the player at first, it appears that this is not the case in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, true to her snooty nature, she will often talk about the fashion choices of other villagers, and gifting her with clothes and shoes will always be tricky due to her high-fashion taste. Tipper will usually get along with everyone except lazy villagers given that they do not take care of themselves, and jocks because they don't really care about fashion.

Of course, it is worth noting that these four cow villagers are not the only cow characters in the entire franchise. Other cow villagers who were not featured in Animal Crossing: New Horizons include: Belle, Bessie, Carrot, and Petunia.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
